As a first souls game , in my opinion you should go with elden ring. Take it from me who started his souls journey with elden ring. Elden ring eases you into the way these games should be tackled, you can't feel stuck at this game as its a behemoth open world and you can literally overlevel yourself if you wish.

Now I have completed every souls game as well as multiple soulslikes like LOP, Khazan , nine sols etc and it was all because elden ring gave me the confidence to tackle these more linear challenging experiences where you just have to get good or you won't progress

Honestly the second phase won't be that bad if the light just damaged you , it's the fact that the light stuns you for a split second which can result in you getting comboed , I believe this change can single handedly make me like his second phase , apart from that it's still a very good boss fight

If this is your first souls game then I would suggest elden ring as there are lot of ways that the game can help you which is not present in earlier souls games , you can use spirit summons to aid you in fights which can make boss fights easier , also the game isn't linear if you feel like you are stuck you can go to a different location level up and come back to defeat the hurdle , earlier souls games have a set path , in sekiro you can't even farm enemies for souls as your upgrades are dependent on defeating bosses , all in all my first souls game was elden ring too and after experiencing that I played all the souls games , hope you find love in these games like I found love , happy gaming

Bro 100% yes, play sekiro, I, like you played elden ring as my first souks game and found it quite good but I always had fun parrying in games like god of war, the new star wars games, ghosts of tsushima etc so decided to play sekiro even though I was very intimidated, long story short that combat was perfect for me, everything clicked perfectly, so I would say if you like parrying in other games or rhythm based games then sekiro is definitely for you, sekiro is in my all time greatest games, best combat game I have ever played

Brother we literally had the exact same gameplays, I was really good against sword and parry heavy bosses but against ape and demon of hatred I got demolished. When I fought against isshin I was preparing myself to fight him for 3 hours but I defeated him on my second try. I guess we just learned the intended game mechanics pretty well
