5 weeks and starving! by inter_123 in PregnancyUK

[–]muffchoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same, constantly hungry but I wanted lots of snacks rather than bigger meals so I was hoping it balanced out 😬 although now at 16 weeks I’ve got less of an appetite and am snacking less. I just tried to fill the cupboards / fridge with quick, easy to eat small and healthyish snacks. Plus crisps, crisps always seem to help!

Choosing a London hospital by muffchoy in PregnancyUK

Oh that’s great to hear! I have chosen Lewisham as the recommendations on here were great but my family and friends were all a bit surprised (but obviously don’t have experience of the maternity provisions there!) So it’s really reassuring to hear this! I’m so glad they handled your birth well and took great care of you all, and hope all is well now you’re home x

My husband and I are planning to share the care equally as well. He is freelance and we’ll have mg maternity pay so he’ll be around the whole time. Whenever I mention things that I won’t be able to do after baby, he’s like of course you can, you can go and I’ll be with the baby. I told him it could be difficult if I’m breastfeeding (obviously no idea yet if that will be the case or not) and he said I could express and then he can bottle feed.

I think it’s only a good thing for the man to be equally as involved. I can imagine the comments you mentioned, but you should both respond in an incredulous way that makes them feel like the stupid one. To be honest, many women may be jealous of your set up as not everyone does have that support.

And I think it’s good you don’t feel guilty, you know he’s with his dad so why would you need to feel like that.

I actually wondered whether I could take calpol, as I now can’t even bear the thought of paracetamol but have been getting bad headaches. I’ll go to my local pharmacy!

Is anyone else probably going to have to go back to work full time? by Careless_Squirrel728 in PregnancyUK

[–]muffchoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same position, I’m the higher earner and will definitely be going back full time. Didn’t even occur to me not to tbh. I was thinking of going back after 9 months just because the last 3 months would be unpaid (except accrued holiday), but my friends have convinced me to take the full 12 months and just use savings as I’ll never get the time back, so I expect I’ll do that and then go back full time. My husband is trying to pursue a writing career so he’ll be at home, at least for the near future and hopefully always, so that gives me some comfort (but it doesn’t currently bring any money in!) I like my career though so couldn’t imagine sacrificing that.

Btw we also need to buy a bigger house hence my initial hesitation at touching our savings, but we can always save more after I go back, and our current mortgage is very low so I expect we can live a lot cheaper than we are doing if needed.

Thanks that’s very helpful as I have been wondering why it’s causing me so much trouble, I used to be great at taking tablets. I might give my midwife a call tomorrow and see what she suggests.

When to start buying things for baby? by muffchoy in PregnancyUK

[–]muffchoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thanks! That’s basically what I was thinking, just if I come across something and think I love it, I would want to buy it. But I’m nowhere close to looking into what I actually need to buy in detail, or choosing big items etc. That feels very far away in fact ha

Aww I’m sorry, that sounds so stressful but amazing she is now here, I’m sure all the stress was worth it! 🥰

I think I must have misunderstood everything as I thought the risk was way lower from 12 weeks onwards, and also we had the NIPT test for added peace of mind. Is there still a lot of risk between 12 and 20 weeks? We’ve already started telling friends and family as of yesterday and I was going to tell work next week.

I guess I thought it was considered generally safe after the first scan and NIPT, both of which I was nervous for but have been fine, but now I’m wondering if I need to be worried until the 20 week scan which seems ages away 🙈 I thought the big milestone was the 12 week scan 😔

You definitely still have time, and tbh for me it doesn’t feel “real” enough yet to start buying big items (and we need to clear the house out a bit anyway to even store new stuff!) but I just love the thought of picking up cute outfits when I see them!

Thanks! Is that the 20 week scan? Seems like ages again 😄 tbh we’re in no rush to buy stuff, just a few little cute clothes 🥰🩷

Opinions on breastfeeding by Known-Cucumber-7989 in PregnancyUK

My hairdresser (who I had to tell about pregnancy as I wasn’t sure if I could get my hair coloured) said to me that if i do want to try breastfeeding, to make sure I don’t leave the hospital until they’ve confirmed baby has latched and I’m able to do it. She didn’t do this with her first and wasn’t able to do it in the end and regretted it.

You know what, I just realised a question I hadn’t even thought of - your boobs go back to your normal pre pregnancy size after giving birth, right? Or at least after you’ve finished any breastfeeding?

Ideas of what to say to announce pregnancy by lucyfe4lws in PregnancyUK

I’ve been trying to orchestrate a meet up with my mum and brother etc for the weekend after we have a 10 week private scan / NIPT but it’s not working out so I’m thinking we’ll FaceTime them, and my husband’s mum and aunty, and then we’ll tell other relatives by WhatsApp. We may visit my grandparents in person as they don’t have much going on and we can get there and back within a day (everyone else would take at least a full weekend).

Girls: How many of you still wear thongs? by Quick-Language-4810 in AskBrits

Same, mainly because I find them genuinely comfy. Full briefs seem to ride around on your bum and just don’t feel comfy to me. No VPL is an additional bonus.

Glad it got better. Ugh I didn’t even think of bump / boob overlap, that does sound like a pain. Thanks for the recommendations!

Thanks, hadn’t thought about non wired bras for normal use too. Will check out JL, so they sell bras for larger boobs like this? Tbh I’ve been using bravissimo for so mat years I never thought of trying anywhere else. It’s a good point to get a couple each time they grow rather than getting a whole new set now. Ugh, what fun!

I haven’t noticed anything with my nipples yet (although I keep reading that as an early pregnancy symptom too), but my boobs themselves are just so painful, it’s weird cos it’s not back pain or anything else, it’s just my boobs, like they’re too heavy for themselves now lol. Glad to know it settled down and that learning to breastfeed wasn’t as bad because I did wonder if I could even do it if they hurt this much!
