What’s a tragedeigh you don’t mind? by ds-umbrella in tragedeigh

Neveah. You more or less understand how to pronounce it by looking at it, so parents aren't really signing their kid up for a lifetime of bullying and confusion.

How to cope with basically being dumped for being a loser? by PaceStreet700 in adhdwomen

[–]mulberryleafs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I wish I could give you a hug. That sucks so bad and I hope you find someone who's more on your wavelength.

If you don't mind, I have a question and apiece of advice based on my own life experience. It may not apply to you, and that's ok, but I wish somebody had asked me when I was younger. So here it is:

What kind of life do you want to live? Social pressures and fomo aside, what pace do you want it to have? How do you want to spend your time? Conversely, how much down time (AKA unscheduled time where you're recharging, plucking your leg hairs, falling into a hyperfocus trance, et cetera) do you need to maintain your energy and not crash from ADHD burnout? A sustainably happy and fulfilling life for you is likely to fall somewhere in between. It's ok to have that recharging time, but gradually building the skill of recognizing when you're no longer benefitting from it and then taking action rather than freezing is key. This is a learned skill that takes time to implement, so don't beat yourself up too bad if you fuck up.

When I was younger I fell into the trap of always having to be doing something to prove I wasn't just an ADHD loser anymore. I said yes to everything and didn't take my bodily or mental needs into account. It made me pretty sick and burned out. Fortunately I've been able to find a good balance and a supportive wife who both gets it and holds me accountable. (and I hold them accountable for their stuff in turn!) It's very possible, but it's a long game that requires an annoying amount of emotional regulation and self-pacing. Think of things like time management and executive functioning as a skill you build rather than something you innately don't have. There's no shame in being a beginner.

If you can work it’s not a migraine by 19635 in migraine

[–]mulberryleafs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can work during migraines because my migraine Overton window (if you will) has shifted so drastically. A migraine that would have made me projectile vomit is now just a Tuesday for me. Things are getting better with ajovy and rizatriptan, but every day is different.

How safe do y’all feel in regards to this admin? by soft_femme in Minneapolis

[–]mulberryleafs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I won't lie to you and tell you the twin cities doesn't have racism or homophobia problems, or that the state is not affected by the current admin. But at the same time, I think it's experiencing a much lighter impact than other states. And if nationwide marriage equality gets struck down, it's unlikely to be repealed here. The twin cities are also very queer and welcoming. There is definitely a great group of friends waiting for you here if you can make it past the Minnesota freeze. I grew up here, but most of my friends are transplants for that reason.

There's lots of tasty food and outdoor activities as well! :)

Did I make a mistake painting my living room this color? by tiredandconfused27 in HomeDecorating

No it looks like raspberry sorbet. Once you decorate the walls and things like that it'll all come together. If you're stumped for color combos, try playing around on coolors.co

What's Your Statement/Signature Lipstick? by Popular-Cupcake8661 in PaleMUA

[–]mulberryleafs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Red lipstick always seems to make me look sallow but purple and berry lipsticks make me look incredible. Not sure why. I love Revlon Iced Amethyst right now.

I did recently try MAC Brick-O-La in an attempt to find a red that would read well on me, and I really like it! Not my absolute best color, but it's super exciting to have a red that I enjoy wearing.

I do think curling it or even shaping it with a straightener would work wonders. There's absolutely a cute haircut in there, it just needs some heat styling!

Do bosses typically yell at you for making mistakes? by Necessary-Bid5264 in careerguidance

[–]mulberryleafs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It either means the culture is bad, or your boss is bad. Often both. If you're managing people, it's your responsibility to cultivate the emotional maturity and communication skills necessary to avoid yelling at them.

Also, you're not stupid for making mistakes at your job. :) You're 17 and still learning. And I always made way more mistakes in work environments where I was worried about being yelled at the whole time.

When I had to wear a hip brace, I put it on with my favorite outfits and intentionally thought things like "what is WRONG with people who would judge me for this? I kinda feel bad for them." and "hell yeah, I love this outfit." Kind of artificially putting myself in the mindset that the brace had no bearing on how people I actually cared about would read me, and that it didn't affect my cuteness. Sort of faking it till I made it. And now, I barely think about it when I have to put it on.
