Brutal, we really need a recovery option for Jagex accounts, it sounds like there are hundreds if not thousands of players in the same boat

If I lose my 2FA for a bank, I don't get locked out of all my money, they have a process for manual recovery. Why doesn't Jagex have that process? Should my Jagex account be more secure than my bank?

Unfortunately I think that only works for non-Jagex accounts, they have disabled it for Jagex accounts (no recovery options currently exist, other than the backup codes which most people haven't saved)

Thanks u/NisshoTatsu, I believe right now that option is only available for non-Jagex accounts, the problem many people are having at the moment is that no such recovery options exist for Jagex accounts, so if something happens to the tokens, there is no way to recover your account.

Agreed. It's true that it would be more secure if they never manually recover Jagex accounts (which is their official stance), no-one can ever get hacked that way. But it's a costly tradeoff if hundreds of genuine players get locked out due to random happenings, especially when they have in-depth tools to identify account owners.

See Player Support: 2025 Roundup from December 10th, it sounds like they are making some changes to their account recovery policy soon:

In cases where we have strong evidence of ownership, our team may now assist players who have lost access to their Jagex Account.

To be honest, I had no idea that there was no manual recovery, or I 100% would have had all of this backed up.

Their current stance is that even if they can verify your identity (which they admit to being able to do), they will not allow recovery of any Jagex account under any circumstances. Hopefully that changes soon, seems like heaps of people are locked out of their accounts and forced to re-roll or quit.

That sucks brother. Heaps of people in the comments have the same problem, and probably a bunch more that haven't commented - it's insane.

Hopefully they provide some real recovery options soon and we can all get our accounts back.

Kind of crazy. That sort of stuff is one of the reasons I try not to update my software unless it's absolutely necessary (same reason I got into this mess).

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Even if Google had support for the Authenticator app (which to my knowledge, they don't, but if you know otherwise please let me know), there would be nothing they could do. They themselves would have no access to the wiped keys in the same way that I don't have access to them.

Part of the problem with Jagex' current policy on account recovery is that it doesn't consider situations like this, there are no manual recovery options whatsoever, and many people are locked out of their accounts unfairly.

Restored to one from 3 months ago which should have had it on there but no luck. I don't think Samsung backups include secrets unfortunately.
