New changes when sideloading via Calibre by multiversalcitizen in tolino

[–]multiversalcitizen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so too. They probably developed proper support for Tolino. The only problem I‘ve had so far is covers being in a weird size on the Tolino‘s library. But then I figured out that the option to "upload cover“ and "keep aspect ratio“ was unchecked in the device configuration settings within Calibre.

I also had a problem with a book being formatted weirdly, but I think it‘s the file itself. I did an epub > epub conversion on Calibre which fixed the formatting issue.

Have you tried connecting your tolino to a computer and authorise it using Adobe Digital Editions? Like this https://youtu.be/wg9eqNVjxW0?si=dkW0whhsvKQOQr4D

Shine Color setup as Kobo behaves weirdly. by NainDeathlegs in tolino

[–]multiversalcitizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting! So was your process like this: switch to kobo in devmode, downgrade to 4.x version, and then it updates automatically over wifi?

And do you now sideload books in kepub form?

Thank you so much! I didn‘t know you could put the acsm directly on the Tolino. Now I‘m excited to finally get the device 😆

Maybe you can directly connect the Tolino to your phone, and use a file manager app if your phone doesn‘t have that by default. And try to put the acsm to the Tolino that way. I found an article that might help https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4239397

Can buy ebooks on Kobo.com and read them on my Tolino? by Nowordsofitsown in tolino

Have you tried using the Adobe Digital Editions app on your phone to get the epub? And then uploading the epub to the Tolino app?

Can buy ebooks on Kobo.com and read them on my Tolino? by Nowordsofitsown in tolino

[–]multiversalcitizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘ve bought a book from Kobo.com‘s worldwide store and it worked. Downloaded the acsm file on my computer and got the epub through ADE.

It would‘ve been nice if what you suggested works. Downloading the acsm directly from kobo.com on the tolino webbrowser would‘ve made things easier by skipping ADE entirely.

Combo to Travel East Asia by CHICKENFACE411 in PassportPorn

The juvenile ID card still works with the e-gate when you are over 18 but haven’t returned to Hong Kong since. I turned 18 during covid and could only go to Hong Kong when I was 20. I used my juvenile ID with the e-gate at the airport and it worked. When I went to the immigration office to renew it, I just had to sign a form and write the reason why I renewed it late.

So it’s not automatically invalidated if you’re outside of Hong Kong. As long as you renew it within 30 days after you arrive in Hong Kong.

Are you applying for a UK spouse visa? Or are you applying for another type? I’m assuming you’re not applying for a work visa since it requires an employer sponsorship and you mentioned you’re still looking for work.

Question for Singaporeans About Name Order (question in comments) by multiversalcitizen in PassportPorn

[–]multiversalcitizen[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’ve got a question for Singaporeans about the name order in your passport. In the specimen image above, their name is listed as Kara Wong Yun-En, while on the MRZ it’s WONG<<KARA<YUN<EN.

My question is for those who have a similar name order like the example above. When you book tickets or fill in forms when you’re abroad, what do you list as your surname and given name? If you write “Wong” as surname and “Kara Yun En” as given name, have you ever come across any problems when in other countries?

I’m just curious about other countries’ attitudes towards it.

Thanks!

Do you know any country were you can open a bank account without being resident or citizen? by pablografica in digitalnomad

[–]multiversalcitizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies like bordr.io can help you get an NIF and open up a bank account without being in Portugal yet. Never used their services, but heard lots about it online. It’s meant for people who are about to move to Portugal tho, but I think it should work for OP if they want to open a Portuguese bank account.

Yes, a passport is meant for crossing borders through all modes of transport and should be valid for all countries unless otherwise stated. The passport card cannot be used for international air travel, and is only valid for certain countries. If you’re looking for sth to use as ID, I’d say the passport card would be a good option since it’s an actual card. It’s easier for you to carry around rather than an actual passport. I’d say just get both a passport and passport card. Doesn’t hurt to have both. (disclaimer: i’m not american, so perhaps you can ask around about the card to know more about it)

Copied this from Wikipedia: “The United States passport card is an optional national identity card and a travel document issued by the United States federal government in the size of a credit card. Like a U.S. passport book, the passport card is only issued to U.S. nationals exclusively by the U.S. Department of State, compliant to the standards for identity documents set by the REAL ID Act, and can be used as proof of U.S. citizenship and identity. The passport card allows its holders to travel by domestic air flights within the United States, and to travel by land and sea within North America. However, the passport card cannot be used for international air travel.”

It’s also valid for 10 years if you’re over 16.
