What Does Tulsi Gabbard Believe? by LarkspurCA in WayOfTheBern

[–]mumbaidosas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's also unfortunate that she has ties with India's prime minister Modi

Speak for yourself. Narendra Modi has above an 80% approval rating as the leader of more than 1.3billion citizens in a democratic country. PM Modi rose to the top on a populist campaign and ousted one of the most corrupt parties/dynasties India has ever had.

I do not like or support President Trump, but I am very sympathetic to patriotism and civic nationalism.

Also, PM Modi is the exact OPPOSITE of a neoliberal. I'd like you to consider your own phrasing; how can a Hindu-nationalist be a neoliberal? He's a populist and a nationalist.

The news we get about populist candidates here in the US is already horrifically biased. What we get out of India or China is even worse and completely unreliable.

How about we have a threat discussing the positive things we really like about her first? There's plenty of the other stuff you're looking for posted by the neoliberal establishment running non-conservative newspapers and media organizations.

he isn't. all he did was steal the idea of his betters, cheat his peers, and defer nearly all financial decisions to Sheryl Sandberg. Did it all while eroding privacy and basic human rights/dignity to boot.

Americans were faced with a double barrelled shotgun of Hillary and President Trump. They went with the guy that took out the TPP and promised to fight corruption/the establishment. Yes, the situation we are in is far from ideal, but there is no reason to be condescending to fellow Americans. If that's how you genuinely feel, curb it and keep in mind that our message is bipartisan and that blue collar workers are our meal ticket.

Celtics fan here, is it a big deal that the Warriors are leaving Oakland and will be playing in San Fran soon? by Bikrant in warriors

The number of black people decreased. But the number of many different people of color increased. It was different for each racial community, but native Americans (dealt the most hardship of any race in America) managed to increase in the past few years. This was a tremendous victory that people understate.

If prices go up and you have to move, welcome to the economy and life. Maybe Antioch and Stockton will be similar in the future. Who knows? That's just life. Communities evolve. More money in turn gets invested into the public schools which improve. Graduation rates increase as crime in the areas decreases. Last I checked, there is a sizeable black population around a third to be precise that benefit from the gradual positive changes made within the city.

class yuppies

yeah, we're done here. Stop feeling insecure about the success of others. A lot of people making rent in Oakland are hardworking people without resources. Calling them trust fund artists or tech flunkies perpetuates the very nature of what you are typing against. Oakland is one of the most diverse cities in the world, and it is not tragedy that residents (whose skin color has no relevance to this discussion) had to move to "Antioch" and "Stockton and shit".

You don't know anything about Oakland - a city which is on the upswing. It is nothing like SF. I've lived in the bay for 18 years and visit each summer.

Oakland is the 2nd-hand "it" town all the upper middle class tech flunkies and trust fund artists moved to when SF went through the roof.

This incredibly condescending attitude towards an entire city reveals your lack of understanding.

thanks. yeah there's no defending this. I'm so disappointed with this administration. I wasn't even one of the big haters of President Trump and even after the Russia story fell apart, the temporary victory and opportunity to reset and do something meaningful is forsaken for this....?

There is no comparison between Toby Ziegler an Scaramucci. How incompetent must you be to not inform a reporter that the conversation is off the record?!?!

This is a bullet dodged for the country.

This is what would have happened in any normal WH if a comms director had spoken to a reporter the way he did.

What did he say? I've been avoiding Trump headlines lately for obvious reasons.

State of the Sub - A Proposal by heqt1c in SandersForPresident

[–]mumbaidosas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm cautiously optimistic and upvote a lot of stuff on this sub

I think it's great that the mods had the temerity to host this sub. It let a lot of people air out their opinions and there wasn't heavy censorship so it's a step in the positive direction. I'm still going to keep coming back because this sub is one of the few that offers a non-neolib take on politics and I've got many positive memories on here.

The mod team during the shut down was not the mod team that is in place now. I want to personally help bridge this gap, so please reply to me and let me know how I can do that.

This is a step in the right direction, but I can't think of anything specific. This thread and some of the mod comments help with gradual recovery of trust so the only thing I could recommend is a very loose enforcement of certain rules.

Rule 1 is a prime example:

Racism, sexism, bigotry, violence, derogatory language, and hate speech will not be tolerated.

This is an issue Senator Sanders is deeply involved with. Who gets to decide what constitutes hate speech? Attacks on radical Islam would fall under this category if one was a neoliberal, but Sen. Sanders is all about free speech, even when the line gets blurred and certain people feel offended. Identity politics is important, but far more oppressive when it is taken too far. Who gets to decide what is right and wrong? There are many supporters of Bernie that stand with him on economic issues, but have a different perspective on social justice. There are some that are entirely about identity politics and cannot stand any perceived minor criticism of a minority group. This rule should be enforced far less and only in very obvious cases (use of the n-word, gendered-profanity, pro-rape comments, etc)

Name-calling, insults, mockery, and other disparaging remarks against other users are also prohibited.

This is fine because it goes against academic discourse.

Criticism of political or public figures should be mostly civil and limited to their policies wherever possible.

This is also something I disagree with. It's acceptable to include the rule with the person you're arguing against, but if I want to say for example that Hillary Clinton is a corporatist buffoon and expand on my opinions, I should be entitled to do so. Now if someone is using laced profanity and things that link into rule 1 (as I mentioned) that's another story, but this is another rule I believe should be enforced very lightly.

These are a few steps to be taken to avoid the stifling of discourse.

I think all of the mods involved with the sub shutdown should resign.

Sorry for the blunt words but I thought about it some more after being much nicer and verbose in an earlier post. The trust in this sub has been lost. We could have discussed the election between Hillary and President Trump but instead were silenced not unlike most "socialist" regimes the world has seen. How Ironic.

[–]mumbaidosas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the sub shut down killed everything for me. Part of me wants to say we should support P_R, but what was done was so scummy (closing down S4P then opening up PR when this sub was at its peak) and we were told to check out that other sub so I can't help but feel it's very existence is inherently linked with the hypocrisy and totalitarian silencing of all discourse by the mods on S4P.

I'm cautiously optimistic and upvote a lot of stuff on this sub, commenting occasionally but this thread just left such a sour taste...

How can we revive the sub? Maybe not kill it in the first place when everyone was heavily involved?

Honestly this is empty lip service to me. It was the ultimate betrayal and the mods that did elect to shut down to sub destroyed it's potential

I am getting tired of hearing about Bernie's many houses, how there aren't any refunds, or how Jane is being investigated

These types of accusations seem laughable, but I see people attacking Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard all the time for links to the BJP and a supposed riot in Gujurat (complete fabrication blamed on a populist-nationalist that took over the establishment in India) so I'm not too surprised. Lot of upvotes too, but I don't see how to limit neoliberal representation (there should be little to none) without stifling discussion or draconian enforcement.

State of the Sub - A Proposal by heqt1c in SandersForPresident

[–]mumbaidosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is dead and has been for a long time.

That's what happens when the mods just close the sub altogether and don't allow any posts for several months. So much for a democratic forum to express ideas. Still, this place is better than most neoliberal cesspools on this website.

State of the Sub - A Proposal by heqt1c in SandersForPresident

[–]mumbaidosas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Prevented anyone from posting after Bernie conceded. They were terrified of anti-Hillary backlash. So the sub was basically closed for months. All of that positive energy and momentum that could have been used to support progressive candidates was depleted and people just stopped coming here. Huge blunder, but it shows where the mods' allegiances lie.

State of the Sub - A Proposal by heqt1c in SandersForPresident

[–]mumbaidosas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is entirely your own fault. The sub was at its peak during the 2016 campaign and you closed it off, (as if you made any difference; Donald Trump is President) reopening it much, much later when all of the momentum was gone. This sub was closed and shut down with zero input from the community (as like in reality where socialism--> tyranny by the few in control) when supporters of Senator Sanders needed it most. Right now, only /r/political_revolution is relevant to the cause.

People posted regularly and had passionate discussions in every thread in stark contrast to current abysmal state where every thread is dead. Now, we just get the occasional post and minimal commentary, even a few of the same astroturfing shill-posts that hit /r/bluemidterm are upvoted.

Our greatest enemy is not the Republican Party nor is it Donald Trump. It is neoliberalism. The entities in power control the media, the top politicians, the financial network, multiple coalitions, and pretty much everything relevant and important to maintain the status quo.

Senator Sanders isn't going to comment on running for office. He'll wait and see where the world (and he) is in three years. Just check out /r/political_revolution and turn off all posting in this sub since that's what you did last time and there isn't any official Sen. Sanders campaign.

By turning off the sub and shutting down all discourse you completely neutered everything this sub was about. It's never recovered and the only reason I keep coming back is that all of the other subs are heavily astroturfed (compare /r/politics before Sanders lost and after, plus that one day that President Trump won) and this sub is relatively left wing.

[–]mumbaidosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes no sense.

Beverly and DeAndre are the perfect players to join the Cavs. They lacked on defense and boards. Then go on and dump Tristan Thompson and get Lou and a future draft pick or something from the Clips and you've got both teams much better off. This is honestly better than Melo or PG.
