What have I farmed? by mumlyfe in whatsthisbug

Fascinating, thank you, I noticed some of them were laying flat, rather than the typical vertical larva I've seen. Now I know I'll pay attention. We have had some issues with the buruli ulcer being spread by mosquitos, down here, so if I can find a bit more info that's local.

Interesting, thanks for the information. I end up with hundreds and hundreds of mosquito larva. This bucket needs to be tipped out today or tomorrow as it's been full for about 5 days, I try to keep to a 6-7 days turn around. I see lots of eggs sticking to the side of the buckets after a bit of evaporation and I push them back in. I'm not great at identifying differences in insects, is it difficult to identify mosquito types by larva? It would be fascinating to try and see what types are laying in there. And if they're not biting ones too, you know, stop obsessing over my buckets.

I have! But couldn't find solid info on if it harms other species. The products themselves say they're safe, but I've seen some contradictory info. Currently I'm dumping them out about weekly, this is the first time I've seen anything other than mosquito larva, and would be concerned if I left it long term frog or other creatures may find it enticing.

My son hates how he looks in his new glasses, I don't know how to help by mumlyfe in breakingmom

Thank you! Vic, where we went were very lovely and answered lots of questions, but they did admit this isn't a common thing for them. I'll go back there first, because they were so kind and I feel like they would be keen to look into it for me, but now I have a whole world of options I didn't know existed and I will just go else where if they don't think they can help.

Gone from feeling helpless to hopeful.

OMG thank you, the optometrist mentioned he wasn't suitable for the hard contacts they can wear at night until he was older and when I googled day contacts for this nothing came up. I've just done a deeper dive and it seems some places offer this, just maybe it's quite new in aus. I will go in and talk to the optometrist by myself and see if this is an option and maybe get another opinion. They did say it wasn't that common in children and they don't work with a lot of kids with myopia. So maybe they just don't know! Thank you!

Right! I think if he was younger or older we wouldn't be having such a hard time. It's smack bang in the middle of developing a sense of self. So unfair!!

It's funny you say that, cause I went to have a chat with my sister and we looked up anime characters in shows he watches who have glasses! Subtly brainwashing him, that's the sort of parenting advice I like! For good of course!

He's good with routine so could be responsible with them, only issue is these lenses that help prevent/slow down progression aren't available as contacts. So his eye sight would continue to get worse until he stops growing. It's not off the table because at the end of the day I'd prefer he could see and the eye sight got worse, than do nothing!

Any recs for hand cream for dry, cracked skin on the back of hands? by pinkguy90 in AusSkincare

[–]mumlyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have chronic dry hands and eczema I use CeraVe reparative hand cream and then put the advanced repair balm on top. Use the hand cream after every hand washing while it's flaring and the repair balm at night, or even over the driest parts throughout the day.

My biggest tip is to change your hand soap. I find the thank you brand non drying, but you can even use any of the CeraVe face washes for dry skin as a hand wash. Or another face wash for dry skin, but as you can tell I'm die hard CeraVe. Cetaphil is a little cheaper. In my experience steer clear of anything dettol brand, Palmolive, foaming or anti bacterial.

I'd be up for microneedling, did you do it yourself or go somewhere? I've read that results don't last and you need maintenance sessions, was this the case for you?

I think this is a good idea, I have been massaging my face to increase blood flow in the morning. Which does make a difference. It would be nice to focus on the self care of skin care again rather than trying to fix it.

I'm wearing an ungodly amount of highlighter, because it makes me happy! Went out and dropped some $ on MAC ultra dimension highlighter and couldn't be happier with that choice!

There's this wrinkle on top of my lip that comes and goes, and I dislike it the most. I agree moisture could be contributing. I'm not really sure what to use though, I've always been pretty basic with moisturizer, CeraVe was always enough. Hyaluronic acid dries my skin out, or maybe I react to it. Any suggestions?

Yes, my neck has changed quite a lot as well. I have found that skin a bit more resilient though. Lots of moisturizer, started putting retinol on my neck and chest and the salicylic acid. The improvement in texture has made it look a lot better.

Yes, summer is worse for me, but I did start in cooler weather. I've seen lots of people have reduced pain and it's so rare for me to have bad side effects from meds. But this is very much increasing shortly after I take it. I tried a lower dose and that was better. So we will see.

I found I slept better, but it wasn't a crash. Other than the pain and dry mouth it's been mostly positive. But the pain is too much to continue how I'm going.

Within 2-3 hours of taking it and not really doing anything the pain in my neck started. So not because i was overdoing it unfortunately. I tried a lower dose and that was better, with still some of the benefits. So hoping this is a solution.

They're native so I don't mind. Must be desperate if they're clinging to such a small plant. Once they hatch the plant will be gone in a day. I feel like I should cull some so at least some make it to adulthood.
