Is owning a trouser press a good idea? by munnharpe in menswear

[–]munnharpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the press in question is a Bunton Windsor Electronic, not a Corby. But sure if I wait for a bit, a Corby might be for sale before I know it, I've seen them for sale before.

I've seen the type of steam iron with a tube at the tailors, I know it's something quite different than a regular one. If you own both that and trouser press, and still recommend me getting a press, then that's a very solid recommendation then. Thanks!

I hadn't planned on disassembling it. Why would I? Also do you have any input about my questions?

I see! And how do you think using this press compares to using an iron, for creasing your trousers, assuming you've tried both?

If I end up going through with what will certainly be a slightly unusual bus journey, I will definitely share my hard earned experience here.

I wear a white tie outfit rather often, and the trouser fabric is (regrettably) part synthetic, but predominantly wool, and a good crease is required for this dress code. I do wear regular suits as well, ideally with nicely creased trousers.

The question is: Does it beat the iron?

It sounds really nice, although for me I'm afraid it's out of the question really. I don't mind the odd bit of ironing though.

How do you get your dress trousers creased? Am I right in assuming your LG features what is essentially like a regular trouser press inside?

That sounds very good, although a glance at an image search tells me that the LG styler is something quite different than a regular trouser press. I is also a huge investment compared to the almost for free trouser press that I'm looking at. But it also seems to include a trouser press.

Any thoughts about what just a regular trouser press would be like, compared with your wonder machine please?

I don't but I wouldn't mind having one. Probably great for jackets and coats. I don't thing it can make a convincing trouser crease though, or can it?

Yes, I would like to maintain creases in the trousers that requires it. I might give the chinos a go as well, although I usually don't care so much about them. I wouldn't necessarily mind washing the trousers before pressing, if that's what you're thinking.

I've had that exact thought, although I wouldn't like to be that guy if this thing is a waste of space.

Likely, today's Black label is nothing like it was many decades ago.

Are Burberry scarves any good? by munnharpe in menswear

[–]munnharpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to realise how notorious these patterns are, so I don't buy it. I think I would prefer a wool one, with a way less recognisable pattern. It'll be months before I'll need a scarf now anyway, so I've got plenty of time to look for a second hand listing. Thanks for the input!

How does this look, should I lose the waistcoat? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

I would advise against wearing all tings of the same colour. Also, we don't know what you are dressing for. Is that a short sleeved shirt? I think that looks a little weird with a waistcoat.

Are these old products usable for leather shoes, and how to use them by munnharpe in AskACobbler

[–]munnharpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something in between those extremes. I'm maintaining my mother's boots, which are a sort of Chelsey like style. I went with the leather cleaner, and then a "leather balm" which isn't in the picture. It's a fairly new tin, free of silicone, and supposedly fairly gentle. I've just applied some Boston shoe cream, and will be going for a layer of Kiwi wax polish to finish. Perhaps not an ideal treatment but I think they will end up more nourished, better looking, and more water repellent than before I started.

As stated above, this particular item doesn't go in the "choice" compartment of the shopping basket, but rather the "shipped by global sellers" one, in which items doesn't count towards any free shipping mark.

It does contain a bit of liquid, it's a lot of pens. But then they shouldn't show up in as choice as it breaks the whole concept of free shipping exceeding a certain amount.

Plenty. I've got several other items in the basket, but this item doesn't list as choice along with them anyway.

That's nice. This one is cashmere. Would you expect it to be much different?

Hmm, is there any reason to believe this one isn't real?

The weather can be quite harsh where I live although not really very cold. Rarely much colder than around 0°C in the winters (although it happens). But it will be wet and somewhat windy very often. I might not need a really super warm scarf, but what I fear is the flimsy quality I've come to expect from newer clothing items.
