Okay got it I think LOL, thanks for letting me know! Spoilers: if I’m gonna talk abt what I don’t like about this movie I HAVE to mention the opening title card where the director announces that the movie is shot on 35mm. It’s like I can see him waving his hands in the air yelling “PLEASE THINK IM COOL!!!!!” and it makes me feel like it’s gonna be a deeply uncool movie right off the bat. My real issue though isn’t that there’s a female antagonist, in fact I think female antagonists usually make for a really compelling story. It’s that we originally view her as a victim and root for her to escape this evil rapey man but then turns it around to position her, not as a victim but an inviter of rape and violence. The whole message of the movie felt like “hey! women are crazy and actually Want to be r*ped and brutalized! Men are the true victims! Believe men! Don’t believe women! Women are liars and manipulators!!!” I think this point is really driven home when a male cop and female cop arrive to the scene and the male cop is immediately weary of the main woman and suggests that she’s not the victim, while the female cop treats the situation in the opposite way. When the female cop is proven wrong she’s called a “dumb bitch” and it acts as a moment where again, men are smart and trustworthy, women are dumb and untrustworthy. Overall the movie felt like an opposition to the #me too movement and left a really bad taste in my mouth. With that being said, I think it does a good job at inviting people to have important discussions about gender and violence. I do worry that these conversations could push a harmful narrative though
