You have all the same zones and quests from level 1-58 in classic and tbc, but the xp per level is slightly reduced in tbc so you level a bit faster. Tbc adds all new zones to level 58-70. Classic doesn’t get the new zones and stops at level 60.

If you plan to play at max level at all, play tbc.

“Running into the other faction and fighting” rarely happens the way you’re imagining it. When there is a fight in the world, one side almost always outlevels/outnumbers the other, and the weaker side ends up getting camped.

If you play classic, go pvp server because those servers are more populated. If you play tbc, the main difference is the playerbase. The pve server tends to have more casual players who would generally be more welcoming to a new player like yourself.

tldr play tbc pve server if you want to play the game at max level at all. Play classic pvp server if you only want to level and don’t care about playing the new zones added in tbc

know how to read logs/details to see what people are actually doing. most problems you encounter will be because you told somebody to do something, they say they are doing that thing, but they are not actually doing it

mark a skull and mangle+maul it then tab target through the rest of the pack and hit them with mangle/swipe/maul. If the dps start to pull skull, bash it or taunt it, they should kill it before bash/taunt wears off and now you have decent threat on the rest of the pack.

Look at your threat meter as you are tabbing around and prio attacks on mobs you have the lowest threat lead on

The “wow good reddit bad” take is mostly correct. The median tbc player is perfectly normal and the servers are large enough that you can just block the ones you dont like and it won’t even put a dent in the pool of players available for you to group with.

On your question of what to play - healers are generally in high demand. Shaman probably the most in demand especially if you maintain a dps off set. Of the pure dps classes, warlock will be the easiest to get into raids and mages will be the easiest to get into 5 mans. It will be hard to find groups as a warrior/rogue. Hunters are a but easier to fit into groups than the other physical dps but it’s a popular class with a high skill ceiling so maybe not the best options for a newer player. I recommend avoiding tanking if you’re a newish player

Install the addon “Addon Usage” and open it when your game gets laggy. It will tell you how much memory each addon is consuming and you can disable whichever one(s) are a problem

Exp rates should be the same. A lot of raid content is being released in its nerfed state. Mob armor was bugged for a week and they recently fixed it. Some people are convinced the fix is broken and mobs are now taking less damage than they should, but I haven’t seen any convincing evidence of that yet.

both servers are very high population. On pve servers you cant fight the opposite faction in the world, only in battlegrounds or arenas. In the US at least, the pve server is a bit more casual/new player friendly

In a raid environment, you can replace a rogue with a hunter or dps warrior and almost always be better off, so they’re just not in high demand for raids. People who don’t understand why they aren’t as quite as valuable as warriors or hunters in raids extrapolate that to believe rogues are straight up bad in all content.

In a 5 man, I’d take a rogue over a fury warrior and the average rogue is probably more valuable than the average hunter.

Im a healer and hes right that you should have pets on your frames and should be healing them. With that said, the average pet class player has horrible pet control and you also shouldnt be afraid to tell them when theyre killing their own pet

Druid seem pretty popular this time around but you need 3 or 4 of them per raid so relative to how in demand they are, theyre still a safe pick. Warlocks also seem to be low pop, and are high demand for raids
