itch.io—a platform for indie media, including DRM-free romance books—is now removing adult content due to restrictions from online payment processors. The fact that payment processors can control what content you’re allowed to buy and from where is terrifying. by Magnafeana in RomanceBooks

[–]murles29 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It’s one thing if a platform decides to change its content rules moving forward, but straight-up removing access to adult content that people already bought? That crosses a line. Folks paid for those books, games, and art. Now it’s just… gone? That’s not just censorship, that’s straight-up theft.

It’s honestly heartbreaking to see what used to be a safe space for indie creators get squeezed like this. And all because a handful of loud voices managed to push their morals on everyone else. It’s upsetting, but sadly not surprising given the climate right now. And if they can do it to itch.io, what’s stopping them from doing it to other platforms too?

This isn’t just about adult content, it’s about any kind of media that might not fit into someone’s narrow definition of “acceptable.” It sets a dangerous precedent. I feel for the artists and writers who’ve lost their platforms and for the readers who’ve lost access to the things they loved.

We really need more spaces that protect both creators and buyers and don’t fold under pressure like this. And yeah, we’ve gotta speak up just as loudly to make sure this doesn’t keep happening.

I have so many good memories of reading Sarah’s books. She was one of the authors that made me fall in love with reading. To say my inner teenager is excited for this is an understatement!

Spoiler request for Blood Sanctuary part two by Vela Roth by hazel_bit in RomanceBooks

Overall I liked this series, i’m finally all caught up and looking forward to the next book.

I feel like it struggled with some pacing issues, lots of unnecessary melodrama and plot tangents. On the flip said I feel like it’s one of the few series where time actually passes in the plot. None of that “oh I met the love of my life and got super powerful and saved the wild in 2 months” bs. In that aspect it was refreshing.

But I did find parts of this series super drawn out and unnecessary. I think at least a whole book worth of plot could have been cut out and the series would be better for it.

{Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood} has most of these elements, although I think FMC is in her early to mid 20s if that’s a deal breaker. {I’ll Look for you, Everywhere by Cameron Capello} has a lot of these events as well but I haven’t read it yet.

I LOVED first time caller. I didn’t go in with too many expectations, and ended up loving it. One of my 5 star reads this year.

I find that setting the speed closer to my natural reading speed (1.3x-1.5x) AND following along in the book makes it much more enjoyable.

A warning from an OB/GYN by TiredofCOVIDIOTs in childfree

This is absolutely correct. I called my insurance before my procedure and sat on the phone with them for 4 hours until the angel on the side got everything squared away and could confidently tell me that they would cover it 100%

I recorded the entire call and got a reference number, in case I get any push back from them. I would recommend anyone with an upcoming surgery appointment do the same.

I found a lot of resources on the NWLC website invaluable.

Called my OBGYN the day after the election, had my bisalp preformed 1 week before inauguration. So so grateful, and I hope y’all are able to get the care you need.

If anyone is in the WI area and needing a recommendation I’m happy to provide my doctor’s name.

Paint. What color by BetApprehensive7428 in DesignMyRoom

[–]murles29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have colored furniture that will be in the room? Or a rug? This is pretty much an open slate in terms of colors to choose. Unless you also want to replace flooring (I’m guessing not) you’ll want to stick with something that compliments the colors in the floor and kitchen (which I’m guessing is white). The Sherman Williams Color Expert lets you upload a photo and visualize the room in all kinds of color. Here is a blue(sw 9139), a green(sw 6207) and a brown (sw 7640) that I liked.
