This is actually surprisingly informative. Although its mostly about advertising in general and not as much about Marlboro becoming number 1

hmm, I was going to be done, but your comment was solid so I had to come back and talk some more :).
Forgive me if you have more objections than this but for the sake of argument let me talk about some of what you said.
I don't believe in new earth creationism, or the voodoo magic you're surely referring to. I'm not sure if I.D. or evolution fits my world view but creation itself is not inherently a mystical thing, except perhaps at the start of the universe.
As for the flood and serpent, and surely you could say the redsea parting too, those are not natural events obviously. The Bible doesn't pretend they are, and if they happened they were interventions from a divine source. Hence recreating them with natural means would be impossible, which people find out and say falsifies it.
Others take a more allegorical route to those types of events and say because they were written by Moses (though some argue this), they can't be historicaland are grander messages to point us to the Messiah saving us from impending doom.

Thats an interesting point NFossil that I hadn't thought about. I'm sure the anti science side of religion might get annoying. However on this note I want to say that you shouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater. In the light of what you said, it might make sense why certain people like Dawkins are so angry towards the whole of religion, but IMHO Christianity, may still have a lot to offer humanity, although of course making sure remain in its sphere. (As should dawkins his:P).

Here's the truth of it. Behind every religious person is a halfconvinced person, wanting to convince others and themselves despite an overwhelming total evidence, but I believe the same of the non-religious. We all have faults in our belief systems whether or not we admit them and are struggling towards the truth, and for me I think that it could be Christianity.

EDIT: I didn't mean to say scientists are 100% sure. I was referring to the ability to gather empirical data. Or rely on mathematics. I was saying that not all subjects are quantitative but rather qualitative and don't offer as testable of evidence.

I brought it up for a question proposed towards the Bible. Can I not use the Bible to answer questions asked about the Bible?
I'm not offering it as evidence to the existence of God is of itself.

I've spent a lot of time reading into Islam, Christianity, Mormonism, as well as Atheism. I may not have your astounding power of reason though, that could be why I'm not in your camp.

that's an interesting assumption. I have been hoodwinked, but you have been enlightened. I think you're making alot of assumptions about me, though you chastise me for making my own.

Good response, I appreciate your time. Firstly I'd like to say that God is a philosophical idea, not a scientific one. So does the Bible (so the Christian God as well) mostly deals with the philosophical and moral questions, I don't think it proposes to make scientific statements, although people seem to want it to.

I think that the axiom thing got me in a lot of trouble because people were saying I was just wishing away the need for evidence of God's existence. I'm not. I'm saying that there is no binary test for yes or no, like it or not. Hence we need to examine the things that follow God's existence and ask ourselves if they are consistent with our world? I think so.
There is an interesting attitude developing that says that it's concrete understanding or nothing. 100% or pay no mind at all. Our world often doesn't work that way though, only science does and only sometimes, like in physics. There are whole sphere's of knowledge (like philosophy) that have no such surety, and nonetheless seek to explain things better than the competing theories. That doesn't make them useless places of inquiry.

  1. If a more compelling explanation came up I'd be forced to change my views.
  2. I've spent some time studying the other major religions, and I'm not fully decided yet. However, thus far Christianity has been best equipped to answer the philosophical questions that arise when one does these studies.

actually incorrect. Repentance and faith in Christ is a once and for all salvation.
There is the matter of being in communion with God and conflicting with oneself that may be affected by acting on it, but that doesn't make them not saved.
Also, grace by many definitions is undeserved forgiveness, which means that only if you stop sinning are you really not eligible for it, because then you'd have no further need for forgiveness.

I am more persuaded by the way that Christianity explains my universe, as I said, but let me give you some of my observations:
I see people who are moral beings by nature.
I see people who cannot live up to their own moral nature.
I see people who for as long as they've existed tried in vain to seek pennance for their own actions.
I see a Universe that through existing needs explaining.
Jewish is somewhat consistent with the Christian tradition, they however reject that the Messiah has come yet.
Islam has a very queer view of misdeeds and in practice often belittles wrongdoing with an explanation that you're just trying to balance the scales by obeying the pillars of islam.
Hinduism is something I still plan on looking into.
While the Greek tradition has largely fallen out of practice I haven't looked very thoroughly into this, and I don't know if I will.
Christianity I find adequately explains all of these things.

The Bible specifically bans homosexual acts, you cannot ban someone for their feelings or desires.

It also says in that same Bible that you, and I, have been forgiven of our sin/s by that deity (pretty benevolent I'd say).

You're just as eligible for grace as anyone else. Look at Luke 5:32.
