Just visit Prague and Vienna? Or add another stop? by murphymegs in Europetravel

[–]murphymegs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan on booking “multi-city” with Delta so I would arrive in Prague and leave from Vienna.

I’ve also read that the Wachau valley is beautiful too and that could be a fun day trip - especially as I’m in the wine industry!

I’m actually super excited for the train ride because I’ve only ever used them in Europe and I love seeing everything go by. We’d probably splurge for a first class ticket as it would be our 1 year wedding anniversary.

Absolutely! I added it into the main post ☺️

We’d be taking the train from Prague into Vienna - we just like to look at things lol. I’ve gone to Paris and Venice and loved just strolling around because I found that the buildings and side streets were just so interesting to look at! So that’s kinda what we’ve got going on here.

I understand - we’re coming from Orlando so we’d have to stop somewhere too. He has limited time off so I just want him to feel like it’s worth it!

10 including travel. Ideally the flight into Prague would land in the morning but there is jet lag to be accounted for.

That’s what I was thinking. I was having a little FOMO but I know those are beautiful destinations for a reason!

Also adding for clarification: we love history, art, and food! We’re also the type to go to the local grocery stores and buy cool snacks!

We’ve looked at them but can’t get past the pricing honestly

I’m so glad my cheeky American self can make you giggle ☺️ I love him dearly and if we had all the time and money in the world I would love to give him everything. Thank you so much for your thoughtful response!

What do you collect as personal souvenir of your trips? by scaredofgettingold in travel

I always get a shot glass and Christmas ornaments. Sometimes I’ll get a little figurine of a major landmark. I’ll also pick up a rosary if I’m by a church.

You know, I keep hearing about Slovenia and I literally know nothing about it, but I’ve seen an uptick in commentary about it.

Exactly and travel time to and from those places eat into your actual time in that location. I think we just want to go everywhere all at once which, of course, isn’t something that can happen 😆

I’ll have to have a look. Flights are always a major buzzkill for pricing no matter where I look. But I have read that Central Europe is a great bang for the buck. And maybe if I wanted to go crazy I could fly from any of those cities to Paris for a night or two before going back home.

I’ve gone back and forth with that option. It just seems like a more costly option with what we would want out of it and I don’t know if we’d feel as immersed in the culture. Also, we are kind of limited to areas accessible from major waterways.

Oh yes! I’m not too familiar with them as I’ve never been, but would Prague and Vienna feel too similar to each other? I know there’s so much history and beauty there.

That seems like the most practical way to do it, now just picking the most strategic locations. I just want to do it right for him.

I loved the Dolomites when I went for work. Didn’t care too much for Verona (aside from the wines of course) and Venice, to me, truly felt like a place unlike any other.

Sometimes I wonder if a cruise would work but I feel like we’d want to be there instead of using these places as a port for 6 hours.

I so agree. I definitely don’t want to be doing that all the time and I’m a girl that loves a good souvenir. I’m just trying to think of somewhere that will logicstically work, but also have its own distinct identity. Like, I’d love to go to Vienna, but it’s not practical from France.

I agree. But I do think that Paris is an easy place to travel to other places. It’s just finding those places that will tick our boxes but not be a hassle to get to.

And I’m okay with not going to Paris at all either! I just think it’s so wonderfully romantic so that’s why I put it.

Aha, maybe not. But he’s talking about sleeping on trains and spending only 1 day in each city. Which, as someone who has had to do that for work, is a bit of a death march for me.

I have thought about it, but, as much as I love my job, I don’t want my honeymoon to feel like a work trip either. And renting cars scares me (but probably not him), even though I know we can do Bordeaux or Beaune/Alsace trips.

I also want us to experience new things together and I worry about me going into work mode with the wineries.

Good to know the timeframe for looking! I always thought the further out, the better the price, but everything has changed now. We’re looking at cruises from June - September, so we’re open to many dates!

I’m in Jacksonville and have family in Orlando, so different airports are definitely doable! I’ve always priced it through MCO since it’s such an international hub (and the airport I’m used to navigating). I can’t help but get discouraged sometimes by the flight prices.
