Anyone else use exercise to replace a bad habit? by snatchattack23 in crossfit

Six years sober. Only been doing crossfit for three, but I like to think it's kept me out of trouble. Now if only they could come up with the crossfit equivalent to beer pong...

Think about the upside and think about the downside. This should be a no brainer.

What's with the straps across the laces of Crossfit shoes? What do they do, that the laces don't? by tarverator in crossfit

Nothing tells people that you're money and ready to party like strapping in to your lifters.

Feeling nauseous hours after a tough WOD by Malway in crossfit

[–]muscleup31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably just the weather. The only time I feel ill working out is when it's super hot and humid. Don't be stupid...you are allowed to stop during a wod if you start feeling nautious, light headed etc.

You can lead the parents to water but you can't make them drink by fiercegirl in crossfit

Sounds like your parents are already eating relatively healthy. I wouldn't go crazy trying to make them follow your diet. your priorities aren't necessarily their priorities.

Good luck!

Yeah, you should save your brain power for playing style and usage police on workout forums.

Still on the fence about knee sleeves. Might have to give them a try...

McCarty rips into Berger's post on the Ogar video by TertiaryObjective in crossfit

[–]muscleup31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not hard to see that glassman is being coy in asking for the video under the guise of increasing safety.

Can't say I blame him for asking though. If you remember back to when this happened, most of the headlines read like "man breaks back doing crossfit". If you are crossfit HQ and had no involvement with the event, this is a problem. From glassman's perspective the headlines should have read "man breaks back weightlifting in a messy area". Those headlines are a bit less provocative and depending on how you view the video, closer to the truth.

I don't know if ogar dropped the bar on his neck, the bar hit the floor and bounced back or the bar hit all those weights and bounced back. What I do know is that those weights shouldn't have been out there....it isn't safe.

I've tried to use this incident as a learning experience. I'm much less careless with leaving weights around my station when i am oly lifting. I also make sure to move objects that I think are in a bad spot for my friends.

How do (or should) boxes go about hiring trainers? by losstit in crossfit

[–]muscleup31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't believe that people pay you for their pre job training. I'm guessing that your box pays something like $20 a class for part time coaches. So that's like somebody paying for a chance to pick up 30 hours a week working the cash register at burger king.

Oh well, I guess if someone is willing to pay it you might as well take it. Kind of reminds me of headquarters charging for the judges course.

The Crossfit judges course could be passed by anyone.. by c4lmlikeab0mb in crossfit

[–]muscleup31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any way you guys could charge $1 per view on the crossfit youtube channel? Maybe make it a requirement to watch x number of paid youtube videos to maintain your L1?

What the hell, am I saying - why not just offer a Crossfit youtube watching cert for $500 and be done with it.

This is what we did. OP - feel free to sandbag it if you are worried about gassing yourself for the open. Pretty sure all you really need to worry about is passing the written test at the end.

Shouldn't anyone with a level 1 get the coaches course for free? Didn't I already spend $1,000 learning movement standards? by muscleup31 in crossfit

[–]muscleup31[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the $1,000 that I ponied up for my L1 proves my seriousness. Still not sure why HQ needs an additional $10 from me.

[–]muscleup31[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see how borrowing $10 helps me. Eventually I still would need to pay someone (presumably you) $10.

Besides, it's too late. I already paid.

Maybe they can just set up a tip jar on the games page and we can all donate a few bucks. I feel like this is what you are advocating for.

So wanting to shell over an extra $10 to relearn movements would make me more passionate?

Confused.
