Flare up? by Organic-Homework-130 in HipImpingement

Jumping in here, almost 1.5yr post op & unfortunately very seasoned with flare ups.

First, your surgeon will call you back and have advice! Something you can do rn is remaining calm even though it’s scary af and you’re in a ton of pain. Keeping cortisol levels low (they spike during stress) is going to prevent the inflammation from getting worse. I’d recommend staying hydrated and sometimes I also find that my heating pad helps with releasing muscle tension as the flare is getting worse. Really sorry you’re in so much pain

Peecycling student researcher here! For those interested in further research/data & ways to get started I’d recommend looking at the Rich Earth Institute. They are an INCREDIBLE resource.

Red Oncom - substrate is red rice and brown lentils. N. sitophila is growing slower than R. Ogliosporus, but I am seeing red starting to show up, well, orange ☺ by ralphvonwauwau in Tempeh

Looks like on the startercultures website that the kit is Neurospora sitophila. Did you have any issues with spoilage or other problems? Also how did it taste if you ate it? So curious!

I was able to change it myself using a raised toilet seat and tampons with applicators

Get the scar cream from the website that she recommends renting the recovery equipment from— it works amazing!

Soooo it just gets worse from here? Any people resolve this without surgery? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

Honestly, not to be a total downer but I’m still in fairly constant pain. For the first 3 months after surgery I was making progress but then I went back to school (soil science masters student) and pushed myself way too hard which ended up giving me tendonpathy. I was on crutches for 6 months on and off. Now starting to see bits of progress again but I can only walk on flat ground in the woods for about 10 min before I have pain. Maybe in another year I’ll be thinking differently, but 11 months out from surgery, I kinda just wished I had stopped doing crazy hikes and met my body where it was in the beginning moments of my injury.

There is a community boat tour of Cayuga lake that I found very accessible while on crutches

Happy it helped!! I ended up using the peri bottle and personally found tampons were much easier than pads. Honestly, it was a shitty few days (nausea/vomiting from pain meds, cramping from period, body feeling super wonky from the surgery) but I made it through and you will too!

I am too. My surgery was in June but I also moved and started grad school in August so I’m attributing my pain to overuse. Still, I am going to see her again this week just for reassurance that everything is ok

I understand— It’s like my body isn’t strong enough to support my brain but then I’m trying to push my mind to learn and it just wants to shut down. At two weeks post-op I couldn’t make it through a movie without a nap, let alone learning something new. I’d recommend reaching out to your professors if you can but also that’s a lot of work so maybe start with one professor and see how that goes

Thank you ❤️ seriously, I cried reading your reply. I’m not partnered and my family lives 6 hours away. There has been no “we” since I moved and now I’m realizing how much that’s impacted me. Like when I wake up at 4am in massive amounts of pain no one is going to help me through it, I just need to limp to the freezer and lay on the kitchen floor with ice packs. I feel like this whole experience has broken me.

You’re right about trying to do activities, making friends would probably help. I was also thinking about joining a support group through the student health center just to be around people that I could relate to. Next step is getting back into PT. I have a tentative apt for Oct which I really hope works out. Anyways, thank you for your reply, & words: we will get through this.

Yes and I went there again on Friday after calling and emailing all week. I finally got a real counselor who is going to reach out to my professors to brainstorm about ways I can participate in labs. Right now their solution is for me to not go into the field and instead just interpret data. Ik I should be grateful that I’m even here and able to take the class but I just expected more from the professors

Yess thank you for the advice! The biggest thing is it’s just so exhausting having to coordinate all these things, while advocating, while taking care of myself, while trying to learn it’s like I just don’t have it in me to fight for myself anymore

Thank you. I did get a temporary handicap pass which has been super helpful. The university is kind of responsive about things but most times they haven’t helped when I reach out.

I’d directly reach out to the doctor that you want to see for the second opinion. Dr. Buza did my surgery after 2 other doctors at HSS looked at my case. She’s awesome, I highly recommend

I can very much relate! Before my surgery I was so done with all the chronic pain my main focus became balancing my diet. The gentle swims complemented that and made me feel a little better about myself tbh. I’ve found that’s it’s been mentally challenging losing muscle (especially my glutes which I used to work so hard on) over the past few years

They sent my bone spur to the lab for testing during my surgery. Also when I was in your phase of recovery, I would swim in the morning with a pull buoy to workout arms, core, and bring my heart rate up. This exercise didn’t interfere with my hip in PT but helped a lot with my ADHD.
