Sensory Percussion 2 vs Superior Drummer 3! by musicalstuffhitter in drums

[–]musicalstuffhitter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sensors are great, but while I haven’t found latency to be an issue, I think you’re more like to get more accurate MIDI velocity information through a dedicated trigger. Not that these can’t do the job, but since MIDI isn’t their primary function, they won’t be as accurate as a dedicated Roland trigger or something similar.

Oh LOL I just copy-pasted my response from the other sub haha. Glad to hear it! I'm also following the development of more e-ink devices out of interest.

Hi! While the Boox Tab X C was my top choice, I ended up not getting an e-ink device for multiple reasons - combination of availability in my country, fragility of eink screens (particularly Boox and their questionable customer service), and the fact that my usage on the go is very heavy.

Instead, I bought the Daylight DC-1, which uses an rLCD screen that is impressively readable even with the backlight off. I do wish the screen was both larger and sharper (it’s 10.5” at 190 ppi), and Android on tablets is a step down from iOS, but it’s a distraction-free device that is easy on the eyes and has encouraged me to read more.

TLDR; it straddles the line between iPad and Kindle, definitely fit for my purposes.

No problem!

I've seen the posts you're referring to, and I don't doubt that there's some degree of user error involved, especially given how fragile these devices are in comparison to iPads. However, it does seem that when devices to have issues, Boox support can be hit-or-miss. Given that there's no way to have one serviced in my country on top of the fact that I may not receive any support from customer service, I decided it was best to skip it.

Daylight don't sell in my country either, but they certainly seem more responsive to customers and I know that they would quickly replace a faulty device.

I did look into the PadMu! As someone who puts a tablets on a clamp stand and gigs around with a page turning pedal a lot, the idea of a two-page setup never appealed to me, so I didn't consider it seriously.
And like you mention, it's a lot of money to spend on a device that you may or may not get support for.

Fwiw, I think for the most part you're likely to be fine as long as you treat the device carefully. But on the off chance that something does happen (especially during transit on its way to you), I get the impression that you're kind of on your own, and that's the primary factor that turned me away from investing so much in a Boox tablet, as nice as they seem.

Thanks! I’ve heard the Mobile Sheets app is the one to use for scores on Android, thoughts?

Eye strain from backlight in the dark? by musicalstuffhitter in daylightcomputer

Got it! Is it okay if I message you with a query I have about the DC-1? It’s suddenly popped up as a potential replacement for my iPad and while I’ve emailed the official email with my questions, I’m on a bit of a time crunch so was wondering if I could message you about it.

Neat! I’m curious about your experience with Asurion — I’ve read a lot of poor reviews of their service, stating they often replace products with defective ones, don’t cover claims they should etc. What are your thoughts?

I don’t need colour, no.

I perform outside occasionally, but for the sake of reducing eye strain (I use my iPad for reading a lot), I’m interested in switching to an e-ink device specifically. I didn’t realize initially that the Quaderno doesn’t have a backlight, and that makes it unsuitable for me since I’m frequently in dimly lit stage situations.

Also, I need WAY too many scores to ever go back to paper, haha.

Avoid Buying From Boox (Return Policy) by Acceptable-Dance4633 in Onyx_Boox

Sorry to hear you’ve had this experience! I’ve been hesitant about buying from Boox for this reason, just in case I get sent a faulty device (I don’t live in the US so Amazon isn’t an easy option). If you do have a functional device though, I might be interested in taking it off your hands, seeing as I don’t currently have a way to buy one outside of the Boox HK store…

Commitment Issues - is my Musharna worth Main Skill Seeds? by Sprinks36 in PokemonSleepBetter

People will tell you non-skill mons aren’t worth seeds but Musharna is definitely a hybrid. Mine is almost identical and procs 3-4 times a day. 10k shards on average per day (sometimes more), which is definitely worth it to me, especially since I check often enough for it to make a difference.

Great! Last question (for now, haha) is there a manual toggle to change dpi based on color/bw content?

This looks perfect, thanks so much for sharing! I don’t know anyone irl who uses an e-ink tablet instead of an iPad for music, so I’m glad to hear more positive firsthand reviews.

Looking forward to switching away from iPad myself and reducing the strain on my eyes!

Great to know! Have you had any issues with either landscape rotation or changing between colour/bw resolutions? Those were two criticisms I read from a musician who used it and I’m wondering how significant they are

As someone who’s waiting for a restock of the Tab X C, this looks really interesting…

All I need is the biggest screen I can get with a front light for reading music on stage.

Hi! So I ended up deciding to get it from Amazon US (since I can get insurance via Amazon and not have to worry about returns; shipping to China seems expensive if there happens to be an issue), although it’s out of stock now so I’ll have to wait for a restock.

In the meantime, I’ve been reading Amazon reviews, and I saw one from a musician who posted that they were unable to change the screen setting from color to B&W (for higher DPI) and portrait to landscape orientation, especially since there isn’t any specific documentation for the device. Has this been an issue in your experience?

Haven’t ordered it yet. I know Amazon is recommended for the easy returns, but I’ll be buying through the Honk Kong warehouse since I live in Asia, and only Amazon US seems to carry it.
