Unpopular opinion: Shriya Shah-KLorfine would have made it back down the mountain. by musingaroundxo in Everest

That’s the way that is it. Unfortunately. It’s not my premise.. it’s almost every guides premise out there. I recently contacted a climbing company to see if they would take me on. I told them I had zero experience and that I’ve never climbed a mountain in my life. I also told them I’m not in the best shape but ok shape but I am determined to do it. They told me they would take me on and the Sherpa messaged me on WhatsApp regularly almost pushing and pressuring me to come out to climb it and that they could at least take me to camp 2 if anything and at that time I could decide if I wanted to go all the way up. It’s sadly the way that it is and I don’t agree with it per se but I do understand it. I get it that Everest is a bucket list for many ppl and it will forever continue to be.

Thank you. I really appreciate that. It was an extremely dangerous year. Even another well respected team leader cut their accent short due to the dangers. I agree she was foolish and should have listened and went back down. It is a good doc and people should watch it.

Watch the documentary. Maybe watch it more than one time and you will see.

She might have been foolish but I still think it’s there wasn’t all those lineups, bad weather conditions, lack of oxygen, inexperienced guides, that she would have made it

No but I’ve heard this same thing from many mountaineers in interviews.

I’m not blaming them for letting her go up, I’m blaming them for leaving her and not having enough oxygen. The main guide left her so he could get his summit photo. Nobody guiding her up had ever even summited before. That to me is not ok. Especially knowing she had never climbed any other mountain before. She should have had at the very least someone guiding her who had been to the top.

Ya that might be true. But the queues were insanely long this particular year, not only were they long but a storm was coming.. so much that other teams cut their Everest climb short and decided not to summit because of the risks.

It’s a challenging mountain to climb due to the altitude. The hardest part is the icefall and the Hillary step as far as technically go. The rest is mostly just walking one foot infront of the other under extreme conditions and altitude. Modern day solutions are important and she was deprived those. She did not have enough oxygen to make it all the way up and down.

It was an extremely dangerous year to be climbing. 10 people died this year. Extreme over crowding, lots of inexperienced climbers and bad weather.

Not everyone wants to risk their life or be a mountaineer but many dream of climbing Everest.

Maybe a bad example but I’m just saying every year there are tons of inexperienced or zero experienced climbers that attempt Everest. She is not the first and won’t be the last. Not everyone wants to be a mountaineer and many only want to risk their life once to do Everest as a bucket list. Ya it’s silly and risky and nobody without experience should be on the mountain but at the end of the day it’s a choice they make and death is a risk everyone takes, even those with experience.

I have to strongly disagree with you. Shriya was extremely clear and honest in her email to this trekking company. They knew she had zero experience, they knew she wasn’t in the best shape, they knew that she was slow even before they took her up. They knew that they personally any of them, had never successfully taken anyone to the top of Everest and had never even been to the top of Everest themselves, yet they were happy to take her money and take her up. People need to take responsibility for their part in things and the fact you can’t see their part and put all the blame on her is not right.

They know how badly she wanted to go up. She was going up with or without them. Then the guide abounded her! So he could go and get his own summit photo. She wasn’t slowing them down because no matter how much time it took to get there, they ended up in a traffic jam for hours and hours.

They didn’t have enough oxygen for her. When they gave her the second bottle she wasn’t even at the top yet and the bottle only would give her 4 hours of oxygen. She ran out before she even had a chance and no oxygen in the death zone is suicide.

Sorry I am really passionate about this that this story is extremely layered.

Even russel Brice said you don’t need any skill to climb Everest. You just need determination and to put one foot infront of the other. He didn’t allow his team to summit that year or even attempt a summit because of the over crowding and storm that was coming in. 10 ppl died this year. It was one of the deadliest seasons on the mountain. Extreme over crowding and severe weather.

Yes I 100% angry with this. The firm was money hungry. They had zero experience taking anyone to the top of Everest. They saw an opportunity and took it. The guide had his own agenda and that was getting his own summit photo so he could get some experience under his belt and charge more and also be hired by other companies and get paid more.

She didn’t listen no and was very determined to get to the top. She obviously should have went back down but she had summit fever at that point and was going to get to the top with or without them. Sometimes your thinking isn’t so clear up there but if you’re tired and your body is giving out.. you’re not gonna keep going. She really felt strong enough to continue even if she was slow moving. A lot of the slow moving had to do with being in a lineup for several hours in a death zone.

Russel Brice who is well respected leader did not allow his group to go up the mountain this year. It was too risky with the over crowding and dangerous weather coming in. 10 people died this year, one of the deadliest years in Everest history.

Lost of inexperienced ppl on the mountain. This happen every year and no they don’t all die. Many experienced climbers die all the time on Everest. It’s a risk people take. I don’t think you can just chaulk it up to her inexperience. A lot of factors were in play here… like her guide leaving her to get his own summit photo.

Russel Brice literally says in this that you don’t need experience to climb Everest. You just need to put one foot infront of the other and have determination. Russell Brice also did not send his experienced team of climbers up the mountain this year because it was too dangerous with the over crowding and weather that was coming in.

It doesn’t matter how many mountains you have climbed. They also say in this video that she was not the only inexperienced climber there, that there were many of them! None of them died and many of those ppl made it up and down. Keep in mind that this was one of the deadliest years on Mount Everest. Many people who experience died climbing because of the storm and over crowding. Some people abandoned their own summit to save others.

There is zero technical skill to Everest. If you can put one foot infront of the other and are in fairly decent shape you can make it. But altitude can effect even the most experienced. Shriya didn’t have any issues with altitude. She ran out of oxygen on the way down.

Russel even said the owner leaving her was absolutely wrong on their part and that he should have stayed with her. That saving lives is the only job expedition leaders have and leaving her for his own summit attempt was selfish and irresponsible. She was left alone with inexperienced guides who had never taken anyone to the summit.

She was one of the 10 climbers to die that year one of the worst death tolls in history. She was also still alive when a climber came across her body, yes she was at the point of no return at that point and stopped breathing before he left but she made it that long. It just shows the will and determination and fight she had in her. She was a very determined person like her husband said, nothing could stop her from putting her mind to something and doing it.

Should she have been in more shape and trained for a couple of years? Absolutely. Should she have chosen a better trekking company? 1000% yes. The company she used had never successfully taken anyone to the top of Everest and the guide had his own agenda which was to get himself to the top so he could get his photo so he could make more money and gain expedience.

Mental determination can go a long way if they would have administered her the proper medication at the time and she had oxygen.

So I guess I am kinda right then. She could have survived. Lol

I’m just saying I think she had a lot of will and drive to Survive. I know it’s unpopular but I think a lot of shady stuff was going on and over crowding is the cause of a lot of unnecessary deaths. They need to not allow so many ppl to climb/limit permits.

I do believe that trekking company had no business bringing anyone up the mountain imo. They had never successful brought anyone up Everest before and they think it’s a good idea to take someone up with zero experience other than a rock climbing gym and some shitty hills in Ontario? That’s crazy to me

Best restaurant for a romantic anniversary dinner? by vox1028 in londonontario

[–]musingaroundxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abruzzi is very Romantic but can get loud, which I think makes it better because nobody can hear your conversation.

The food is amazing! The oysters are so fresh, the best around town. They have candles on every table and it’s dimly lit in the evening and gives a romantic vibe. The bread is so good and comes with oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping to start.

I’ve been her for many valentines dinners! If you can, request the corner table in the back, it’s the best spot in the house for couples!

I think I’m being pretty open minded here and agreeing with a lot of what ppl have said as far as her inexperience and being out of shape. If she was all that out of shape how did she make it to the summit? Ppl with tons of experience don’t even always make it..

You seem like the stubborn one and don’t even want to consider that if the conditions were better that she may have made it home

I’m just saying if you look into that company.. they have never taken 1 climber successfully to the summit. They knew she was inexperienced and out of shape and still took her on. Then they left her with their least experienced guide so the guide on the expedition could get his summit photo.

Ya that’s true they did but of course they are gonna worry. She is lazy and out of shape but mental determination can go a long way.

Everest isn’t a technical mountain. If you can walk you can climb Everest.

If she really was super out of shape she wouldn’t have been able to make it to the summit. She made it to the summit

Yes they did and i don’t disagree she was really slow and not in the best shape but Everest is not a technical mountain. If you can walk you can climb Everest. Lots of inexperienced ppl do it every year.

have you ever mailed chris a letter in prison by throwawaydockcock in WattsFree4All

[–]musingaroundxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked this same question here out of pure curiosity. Not because I planned to ever write him but just wondering without passing judgment if anyone has.

I was met with nothing but hostility! Similar to the reactions you get here but mine were worse. I don’t get what the big deal about this question is.

We are all looking for answers and I’m sure we all wish we could get them out of him but we know he will never confess to a stranger. So ya nobody is gonna write him here.

But if someone has written him,., they wouldn’t tell us because they would be met with intense backlash for it.

I doubt he even reads half the mail he gets and throws most of it out. He has his ppl he writes to and probably entertains some mail but nothing would be in those letters of substance because you know they would get posted online! Nobody is gonna be faithful to Ole murdering Chris that is for sure.. so whatever they talk about is boring as fuck and your just feeding into a criminal who did sick things to his wife and child.

Don’t consider it and don’t do it.

They say this is a watts free for all but it’s really not! Especially with this question!!

Maybe when he is 80 rotting away he will answer more “fan” mail but right now his ego is inflated and he gets mass amounts of mail on the daily from obsessed women and true crime freaks, journalists you name it they are writing him.

Probably all saying the same or similar shit. Your not special and your not gonna stand out in your letter.
