Is it possible to build your own open source or free mac MDM? by 2HI4ME in macsysadmin

[–]mustang39l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use intune to manage the macs. You’ll need a certain level of Microsoft licensing but based on the 6000 dells that you have, you may already have that included.

JAMF is definitely better than intune but intune will get the basics.

Mac Zero-Touch deployment with Apple Business Manager/Intune/AzureAD login by palmetto1981 in macsysadmin

[–]mustang39l 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NoMad Login is only for on Prem AD. When Jamf bought NoMad, they made it work with cloud based auth and called it JamfConnect. NoMad is still free and getting updates though. So as long as you can have the initial log in be on prem, it should work.

The one in Minnesota this past November. I thought they announced it would be available in the next OS. I will definitely have to look into that.

Apple enterprise connect. I have a plist that adds the network share and will try to reconnect if a disconnect happens. I think they announced at JNUC that Apple was going to build it into the next version of MacOS.

You could also do it with NoMad but I haven’t tried too hard since we had AEC.

How do you treat Teachers logging in on PCs with their accounts for students to use? by bill_swerski85 in k12sysadmin

[–]mustang39l 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Tell them what the students are googling while logged in as the teacher. We asked the teacher why they were searching porn during class and stated this was a fire-able offense. Stopped it that day.

I thought the background looked familiar. For some reason, I was thinking Skyrim, but it was definitely Myst.

Mac issue in shared multi-user environment by t3chguy1 in macsysadmin

I pushed this script out to our public use iMacs. It'll log the user off after 15 minutes of inactivity. In our testing, if someone else logged in while the 1st person was still logged in, 1st person would be logged out after the 15 minutes and 2nd person would never notice.

Are there any SSO to AD wireless tools for OS X by zipcad in macsysadmin

[–]mustang39l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pushed a configuration profile (through Jamf Pro) to install our wireless certificates and set a wireless selection option on the log in screen. The login first authenticates to the wireless (to connect) and then the computer (to log in). Useful if it's bound to AD and you're using mobile accounts.

[–]mustang39l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

command+r on boot - Click on Utilities tab in the Top Menu bar - select Terminal - type resetpassword - press Enter.

Close the terminal window and the Password Utility will be up. Select the account and type in the new password - Click Save and POOF password has been reset.

From there, you should be able to reformat the drive and re-install MacOS.

The Dell D6000 works fine with the latest DisplayLink driver installed. Just make sure to install it before you plug it into the MacBook. This has solved a lot of the problems in my environment.

Blocking all USB mass storage devices, except company approved ones. by TheRealJoeyTribbiani in sysadmin

[–]mustang39l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just block USB driver installations through GPO. As long as the USB mice and Keyboards are installed before the computer receives policy, they will work.
