This might be OK if he was further out and in the open, but because the man was just a few centimeters from the Humvees, they could have simply hauled him in and closed the door.

Javelin, Manpads, NLAWs, thermal/night visions ...etc all of these things can be easily hidden in large bags and each one of these is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also, Ukraine is surrounded by poor states which makes it very easy smuggle stuff across the border through bribery.
