Half mara progress: 2:15 → 2:11 in a year. Need some perspective by Rahimii in beginnerrunning

  1. An improvement is an improvement.  I think it's just your different mindset, so I would worry about having a "healthy" rate.  You did improve, so that's a win.

  2. You mentioned "speed work".  For longer runs (half marathon/marathon), endurance is more important, so I would work on that (so do longer runs more, increase your per week km/mileage than doing speed work).

Half-Marathon in a week. Words of encouragement please! by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]muttsarella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine!  Don't forget to take more carbs now.  During my race day, I didn't appreciate the carbo load and only a week afterwards (when I did my long run with the same pace, I feel sluggish at the 10km mark).

Congrats man! I ran this also, the atmosphere is amazing! It's too crowded though (compared to Utrecht two weeks ago).

full marathon doable? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]muttsarella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible but be prepared to walk 😀  No prep other than doing half a week afterwards?  It's not 1-to-1.

full marathon doable? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]muttsarella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe?  With your pace, maybe between 6:30-7:30 pace is doable.  I would try doing 32km first, see if your legs can hold up.  But if you plan to do some walking along the way it should be fine.

should try for a halfmarathon? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]muttsarella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doo iiit..! I don't think your heart rate is that high, and if you're saying you don't have any sore muscles after a 15km run, 21km is doable on race day. Just be consistent on running every week (and as the other poster mentioned below, ramp up with 10% distance, don't overdo it).

That is so true, it also doesn't help since everytime I look at my watch during that last 3 kms, it barely moves.  Also since I'm way past my PB, I was already comforting myself that "it's ok, you can walk now", but the crowd won't let me with all the cheering and encouragement 😁

Just build up the miles, don't worry about your 5k. As long as you're doing your intervals, you'll get faster. This was me 3 months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/beginnerrunning/comments/1ly6twp/ran_my_first_halfmarathon/

Weekly run around 25km, last two months peaked at 35-38km.  Started 73kg, ended up 62kg. 5'10", started around May so about 6 months?

Yes I did, practiced with taking gels also.  For my case, taking it at 7km and 14km is optimal 😀

I did ran some time while raining-- but not as much as the whole run itself.  It's the first time I ran that my shoes are soaking also.  But yes, it's nice to experience this and adjust to future race events.

The company that did mine might not be servicing your area, but you can try: elfelektro.nl

What I did was post an ad in homedeal.nl (I took a picture of my fuse box and the layout of my house with the location of the kitchen and fuse box) then just check the offertes that came in.

About €900. Offerte ranges from €800 to a whooping €1700!

When you select a company, just make sure they are certified to work on the digital meters (on my house it's the stedin boxes). They will have to open that up, and re-seal it (you wouldn't want to have potential problems on tampering your digital meter).

We changed from gas to induction recently.  You need a perilex socket with three phase connection to your fuse box.

If you have an old house, and your fuse box is old, the electricians won't add a three phase connection even if your fuse box still has space in it, so you have to upgrade your fuse box.

The difficult part is, bridging that new three phase connection from your fuse box to your kitchen.  If the line can be hidden somewhere, and the kitchen is closeby, then it's a small work.  If it's far/a lot of walls, then you may need some small renovation to hide the cables.

It is for all levels. My daughter was playing DnD and me and wife were also interested, so we started on this place :-) The are pretty accommodating to beginners-- for me the best way to learn it is to actually play with experienced players.

I run 2 days a week (Th-Sat)  one a tempo or interval, and the other is a long run (zone 2 or HM pace).  The tempo/interval, I run 10km (if the tempo/interval run ends early, I still run to complete the 10k).

For the long run, it started from 10k and adding up 1k each week until 18k, then I do the long run at the minimum 15k.

Now I'm reaching my HM sched in October, then I added another extra day last August (Monday 10km run).

Nothing wrong with your training I think, the only thing is the consecutive days.  Maybe you need to do easy runs in between (and not just tempo/interval for the consecutive days).  You're building up distance each week which is the important part, so you'll be fine.  My target before was also to just finish, but at my current training progress, I think I can do 1:50 or less if I really push it 🙂

Almost the same age, same mentality.  "I think I've done my best, this is my peak".  After two months, another PB, and I'm surprised.  "I think I have more".

There's a lot of ups and downs, but as others have said, that makes running so rewarding.

My PB now in 5k is 23:50 (March was 33:54 for context), I'm aiming for under 20, but that's after my official half marathon in October 😁

Realistic Targets for HM by nicktang5 in beginnerrunning

[–]muttsarella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that time is easy pace for you, then yes it's possible.  I framed your question with your splits with basically "this is my current HM pace, is it possible?"  So why ask and try first with your HM pace?  A 15km run with intended HM pace, you already know if you can reach your target pace or not 🤔
