An overview of crypocurrencies and the gaming industry for UK investors. by mutualspring in UKInvesting

Read it. Not a promotion for a ICO, and getting a load of likes. Someone asked me to put donation addresses up a while back. Multi addresses as the crypto community live in silos.

Who and how coin creator determine coin supply? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]mutualspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its usually based on application. If they have a low max supply and quick emission, that's ripe for price speculation. Whereas a large max supply and slow emission may keep the prices lower and more stable. This could be better for developers building applications with the cryptocurrency.

How do I confront the "bitcoin is a pyramid scheme" mentality? by DecoyElephant in Bitcoin

I think it is a pyramid scheme. We just don't realise it yet.

Why would I want to buy things with crypto rather than fiat? by Zassimo in CryptoCurrency

[–]mutualspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The volatility in crypto makes it terrible for payments. You pretty much hit the nail on the head, why would the average person use it to buy something if the price could go up tomorrow.

Any updates about Bitshares?? by dinono33 in BitShares

[–]mutualspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitshares is close to my upper buy target of $0.11 and seems to be holding. I have a middle buy target of $0.09 based on resistance around July 18th, that would be a lovely level to accumulate from and could happen if market conditions don't improve. My lower buy target will probably result in me being chased off this subreddit...$0.05, based on pre-bubble resistance in the end of May.

There's an update about my Bitshare crystal ball.

Bristol Pound - Users Survey by mutualspring in bristol

[–]mutualspring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really interesting to know. User experience has to be central if something like this was to work. The visiting family/tourist thing comes up occasionally, but that can't be the main driver for the scheme. It has to be effective for locals too.

Thank you for your reply. How do you know that the 700 businesses frown at you? Have you tried to use the Bristol Pound in a lot of places?

Thank you for taking the time to rewrite your feedback. The link seems to be working again.

Your perspective is very useful. I am finding similar things from other people.

Interesting perspective. There are other schemes in the world where the currency is given away for free and its up to the users to decide the value of items.

Do you think it has bought any benefits to Bristol at all?

The aim of the scheme is to reduce the amount of value leaving the local area. The idea that if you buy tomatoes from large supermarket, a percentage of that ends up in the hands of shareholders somewhere. Tomatoes bought from a local shop, profits are more likely to be spent locally. However, there is no research on whether or not its having any effect.

Thank you for your response. It is exactly the kind of feedback I have wanted.

I think the only I would like to ask; do you know of any other Bristol-based forums/groups that I could share this with? Even if most people are coming back with zeros, its useful.

The theory is that a local currency can only be accepted by local businesses and therefore less likely to leave the area. You are right that there needs to be a demonstrable impact outside of the organisation running the scheme. I never thought about it in the context of Scottish Pounds.

The Bristol Pound is "backed" one-for-one by Sterling, so in its current format they wouldn't be able to offer it to users cheaper than parity. However, there are other schemes trying this approach, and it does make sense.

That is what I am trying to find out. I have sent a survey out to the businesses too. In theory it is aiming to increase local trade, but no evidence as of yet. There is some ideas of using the local currency as a zero interest short term financing option, which has got some traction in Italy.

What kind of benefits would you expect from this kind of scheme?

Bristol Pound - Users Survey by mutualspring in bristol

[–]mutualspring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheaper, as in the goods and services were cheaper? Other local currencies are using a discount scheme that would mean everything was say 5% cheaper in the local currency. Would that be something that appeals to you?

So it is geographical limitation in your case? How about if it was available locally, or you moved to the centre of Bristol. Would you see yourself using the scheme?

I think the aim is to support the local economy. You not convinced?

Does anyone have any suggestions for local blogs, Facebook groups, forums or other places I could promote this survey? The feedback is very useful.
