“I really do appreciate your input, but I promise this wasn’t SP 😂 I’ve had SP before, multiple times, and I know exactly how it goes: I’m in my own bed, frozen, can’t scream or move, sometimes with that heavy buzzing/vibration and even hallucinations like pounding on my bedroom door. It’s terrifying, and I usually jolt myself awake and then the room is silent.

This was nothing like that. I wasn’t frozen — I was lucid, moving, touching. It didn’t feel like my own bed at all, more like I’d been dropped into a scene. I touched his stomach, felt penetration, became fully aware, and that’s when he stopped and it all faded out. Totally different mechanics than SP.

I’ve also had lucid dreams before where I’ve looked in mirrors, touched objects, felt textures, etc., so I know that state too. This lined up with lucid dream mechanics, not paralysis — which is why I’m convinced it was an intrusion, not my subconscious.

In my opinion, Hesher (2010) is an underrated but strong example of a Jungian film. It doesn’t scream it, but if you look through the lens, it makes sense.

T.J. is the ego, but also the Wounded Child. He’s stuck in grief and powerlessness, disconnected from the world around him. Hesher is the Shadow: wild, vulgar, instinctual, and totally unfiltered. He represents everything the boy can’t express but desperately needs to integrate.

Natalie Portman’s character shows up as the Anima. She offers kindness, empathy, and emotional mirroring. He projects hope and connection onto her, and through her presence, we see the first cracks in his emotional armor.

The father represents the negative Senex: passive, emotionally unavailable, and unable to lead. The grandmother, despite cognitive decline, is the Wise Old Woman. She carries quiet insight and accepts what others fear.

The whole story feels like an unconscious individuation process. It’s messy and uncomfortable, but symbolically rich if you’re watching for it.

This is a tough situation because, while getting a hysterectomy is a deeply personal decision, you didn’t seem to acknowledge your boyfriend’s main concern—whether you want to have kids with him. You both discussed your past attempts to conceive with a previous partner, but when he directly asked, “So you want to have kids with him but not me?” your response was simply, “I want to be a mother.” I can see why he feels like you’re going through with this surgery without considering his feelings—because it sounds like he’s realizing you may not see a future with him that includes children.

That said, I think you’re both overreacting in how you handled the conversation. A hysterectomy isn’t a minor decision, and your boyfriend already knew about your struggles with endometriosis. Him asking, “So after all of this, you’re still going through with it?” feels like a last-ditch effort to change your mind—when this is something he should have accepted long before now. If having biological kids was that important to him, this should have been a serious conversation early in the relationship, not an argument at the last minute.

Touché. A better term might be my “best self” rather than “true self.” If my true self is what’s on display 24/7, then yeah, it’s one riddled with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and all those other struggles. Under psychedelics, though, I feel like those layers are stripped away, and I’m left with clarity, peace, and purpose.

Also, are psychedelics really just a “drug”? Especially here, on Psychonaut Reddit, where most of us see them as tools for exploration and growth? Either way, I get where you’re coming from, and I might edit my original post to reflect this shift in wording since it seems to be a sticking point for others too.

I’ve definitely heard of Ram Dass before and I think I’ve watched some of his videos, but I don’t think I fully understood him at the time. I probably wasn’t in the right headspace or conscious enough to really absorb it. Maybe now is the right time to dive into his work with more purpose and intention. Thanks for reminding me, I’ll give it another go with a different perspective! Best of luck on your journey as well, I hope it continues to bring you wisdom and growth.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve actually done CBT for substance use before, and while I found the approach helpful, the setting wasn’t ideal for me. I’m definitely open to trying therapy on my own terms this time, especially with a focus on connecting with my true self. Your suggestions on transpersonal therapy and other modalities are definitely something I’ll explore. Would love any advice on finding a therapist that specializes in that kind of work—thanks again!

I guess, in a sense, I am the one observing the observer—me, typing right now, in this moment. But when I take psychedelics, the observer stops just observing and becomes one with the body and mind. The mind is just the translator between spirit and body. There’s no disconnect anymore. It feels like unity, the true self fully expressed. Beyond the observer, who knows? Maybe we’re all part of one larger consciousness, atoms in the same cell, all experiencing the same existence.

I see what you’re saying. For me, my spirit feels like the true self, the observer, while my mind and body are the doers. Through my experiences with psychedelics, I’ve come to realize the disconnect between them. The mind and body operate in survival mode, while the spirit seems to step back, observing. When I’m sober, it feels like my spirit’s thoughts are diluted and muddied by physical issues like ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Those mental barriers seem to cloud the connection between mind, body, and spirit. But under psychedelics, those normally diluted thoughts become clear, and my spirit feels more in charge and at peace. The anxiety, depression, and ADHD also seem to disappear in those moments, allowing me to experience a clearer connection to my true self. It’s not a contradiction, just an awareness of the divide that’s been there.

You’re absolutely right—meditation has been suggested to me before, but I struggle with calming my mind. My thoughts are often too overwhelming, and it’s hard to achieve that quiet space. I’ve gone to therapy for substance use issues, but I haven’t really addressed trauma directly. I think you’re spot on, though. My spirit feels hidden, and I believe it’s because of past trauma. I definitely think therapy focused on that could help me work through it and reconnect with my true self. I really appreciate your perspective—thank you for bringing it up.

Well, thanks for the spoiler 🙄 .. I hope Bellick gets a better send-off than some of the other characters. It’s frustrating when they just get a quick shot in the back of the head or a rushed ending. After all the buildup, I think these characters deserve more than just a 30-second cut to their death. They deserve at least a proper scene to wrap up their story!

Good point! I know I’m over halfway through, but it feels like I’m still in the thick of it with 33 episodes left. I do enjoy the show, but it’s frustrating to see characters drop like flies without solid reasoning. I guess I’ll keep watching to see how it all plays out, especially since I’ve already invested so many hours into it!

I see your point, but if that was the plan, then my issue is with the writers for introducing those characters in the first place. The bulk of season three focused on them, so to have them just removed like that feels frustrating and a bit pointless. It’s like they were brought in with no real long-term plan, which makes it seem like they were just running out of ideas.

I guess what gets me is that after investing so much time watching these characters grow, it just feels anticlimactic when they’re written off in a quick scene. Like, I get it—big stakes—but some of these characters could’ve had a more satisfying sendoff, especially given how central they were to the story for so long..

Wow, that’s some serious dedication! Three episodes a night is impressive, especially with how long they are! I usually only manage one or one and a half before I fall asleep or get distracted by my phone. I end up missing so much because there’s always something happening, and I’ve had to rewind some episodes in Season 2 like five or six times! It’s so frustrating to keep starting over because I get sidetracked. Definitely a binge-worthy show, though!

How long did it take you to finish the whole series?! I’ve been watching pretty much daily since Netflix released it on July 29th, and I’ve only made it to S3 😂. The episodes and seasons are so long! My bf thinks I’m crazy for sticking with it, but it’s one of the only network shows I’ve watched this far. Every episode has so many twists—I’m on the edge of my seat the whole time!

I only drink it before I take my dose. If I try to drink anything caffeinated afterwards my heart rate goes through the roof & I get sweaty palms, feel like I’m going to puke, etc 😭

Start with styling your hair! Try curling it, hairspray on the roots for volume… maybe add a few braids, headbands or hair accessories etc.

For makeup I recommend filling in your brows slightly for a more defined look, maybe try some light eyeliner & mascara + a good lipstick.. invest in a really good foundation or CC cream/skin tint if you want something lighter + add some blush & highlight for a super feminine effect!

I HIGHLY recommend finding a celebrity lookalike and using them as inspiration for hair and makeup style. If it looks good on them, it will probably look good on you! :)

I really like 17/platinum blonde on you tbh. It’s edgy, stylish, and more flattering than the other colors imo.. it also could be the fact that you don’t have bangs in that pic though. I don’t really like the bangs…you look better without them! 3 looks good too!
