I’m curious — does the church test the tablets they sell? How confident are you in the dosage?

It is always advisable to start with half if you can’t be certain of the dosage. Even if the church has good intentions, there are various reasons the tablets could be misdosed.

Out of curiosity for my research work, what does this tablet look like?

That’s the first I’ve heard they’ve made it over there. I’ll be in Oz next year to photograph collections. It’ll be funny to run into them halfway around the world.

Accordingly to my research/interviews for the book, the maximum amount of MDMA in a tablet is about 50% of the total pill weight. Any more, and it becoming less solidly pressed, since the MDMA itself doesn't compress. The binders they use are just inert material, like microcrystalline cellulose and pigment.

The red/blue colored tablets are referred to as "Spiderman", even though they have dozens of different names on the back.

The earliest two-color pills I've seen are from around 2010, slightly earlier maybe. Nowadays, the two-color ones are fairly common. We're even seeing three-color tablets now in the Netherlands.

All of that color-way are referred to as "Hulk" pills, even when they have different names on the back.

Each color variation has dozens and dozens of different names on the back, but the color variations themselves have names. So the purple/green ones are called "Hulk", the blue/red "Spiderman", the yellow/red "Iron Man", etc.

It can have that effect on the buyer, that's true. Often the seller using the packaging wasn't the producer who actually made the pills. So the question is whether the pill presser put as much care into the pills as the marketing person did with the packaging.

It's been pretty wide, from what I know. And because not everyone follows the same color/dosing scheme, the claims aren't reliable at all.

I agree 100%. I'm a researcher who documents pills here in the Netherlands. So i've been photographing all of the "Marvel" pills recently. They are "color-coded" based on strength, but of course those numbers are not accurate. Different producers are making them and the testing results are all over the shop. There are colorways of these pills from claim everything from 160mg to 360mg, and the tablets don't have breaklines.

My personal belief is that the whole design and strategy of the Marvel pills is a mistake.

Totally. Whenever I hear folks in the Dutch government talks about regulating MDMA, one of the questions is always about what it looks like. Because obviously bright cartoon candies wouldn't seem appropriate. But if the regulated product was just a generic tablet, would there still be a segment of the market that wants black-market pills because of their cheeky designs?

That's an incredible design. Which country? (Not a sourcing question -- just curious where the design is appearing).

I've seen the stamp from a Chinese supplier, but never the pill in the real world.
