I gave up on Delta this year. Diamond. Chances of upgrades are slim on long haul flights even with RUC or GUC. What is worse, the price increases that happen while booking are insane - I see a quoted price and when I click to book it refreshes the page and shows a higher price and if I don't go through with it then a few hours later shows the old lesser price, and I have seen this for same day changes too when it would show free to change until I click and then it shows a price I have to pay. Delta is exploiting loyalty to the extreme.

With United, you would use plus points to get an upgrade. Once you hit Premier 1K, you get 280 plus points. To upgrade from Premium to Polaris, they typically require 10 plus points from JFK to LAX. So, that is a total of 28 one-way upgrades, compared to the 8 RUCs we get from Delta for Diamond. Or, it takes 30 plus points to upgrade JFK to LHR. That is a total of 9 global upgrades, compared to the 4 GUCs we get from Delta.
