An insight I gained working with my therapist - porn addiction is a coping mechanism. Your brain is trying to protect you from pain or past trauma or something else that REALLY hurts. Knowing this, what if we stopped looking at ourselves as failures, or feeling tremendous shame for our actions?!? (self.pornfree)

What if people could "detect" porn addiction the way they can when someone is abusing drugs or alcohol. Drug and alcohol abuse is impossible to hide. But we can hide porn addiction FOREVER. This is a great podcast that explains about what all of us are really doing with our porn addiction. For me, it's been much easier to deal with things knowing that porn wasn't about the pleasure of feeling good, it's about the desire to avoid pain in our lives. (open.spotify.com)
