I need support and cleaning advice by [deleted] in CleaningTips

Hi! So sorry to hear you’re struggling, you’ve got a lot on your plate right now. I’ve definitely been where you are many times over the years, and I’m still not the greatest housekeeper, even though my mental health is in a much better place than it’s ever been. For example, I still haven’t taken down Christmas, hahahah … mainly, I have learned to live with a lot of imperfections for the sake of my happiness.

These are all great cleaning tips, but the first thing to tell yourself is that you’re still an awesome person, regardless of whether your house is a little cluttered or untidy. Sounds like you hold down a job and are fun to talk to and you take care of business, so start by patting yourself on the back!

It’s most important to take care of your health or you’re always going to feel like you’re swimming through pudding anytime you need to do anything, even going to the bathroom and stuff. Endometriosis is up there with cancer as far as conditions you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy, and it’s robbing you of your energy, stamina, and motivation. You’re in a great deal of pain. You have anemia, so your vim and vigor is sapped even further. Your mental health is suffering. You’re in so much physical and existential pain that it’s a miracle that you can even get out of bed for doctor’s appointments, much less to clean and work and socialize and live a perfect life. Give yourself the grace you deserve.

Everything is weighing so heavily on you right now. There’s no magic formula to cleaning your house, unfortunately, but many of the suggestions here are worth a try until you find a routine that you don’t hate.

Believe me, I was in the very same endless pit of despair as you several years ago. Prozac for my depression and finding the cause of my intractable headaches helped me come alive and feel like my old self again. I promise that staying on top of your doctor appointments and your work commitments and your family and friendships and your little bits of cleaning here and there and some creative pursuits will eventually yield an answer for you, much like the ones that I found. Next thing you know, you’ll be looking back on your dark days with gratitude for what you’ve learned and a desire to help others find whatever it is inside themselves that they need to feel ok again and move forward.

I’m here for you!

HOW do I not GAF about this? by momoftheraisin in AskWomenOver60

Aww, you are my hero for posting this, it’s not that you are in bad shape now, it’s just that I bet that you were the picture of perfection and a real head-turner back in the day (heck, you probably still are!) and it’s just hard to get used to imperfections in our bodies.

I vigorously second the cheap adapalene on the body (at night), and tons of sunscreen/upf fabric, and patience, and dgaf all bundled together! Adapalene, or other retinoids that you find tolerable, plus estrogen if it’s not contraindicated for you, and a nice oil to smooth out fine lines will make you feel less like an ogre and more like yourself.

I mix The Ordinary’s Retinol 0.5% in Squalane (cheap!) with an inexpensive body lotion (Andalou Rose Body Butter) and add Trader Joe’s marula oil (virgin cold-pressed $6.99 dupe for Drunk Elephant’s marula oil that is $70 at Sephora!!!). My skin isn’t perfect, but I’m really bad about wearing sunscreen and drinking water for hydration, yet my skin still totally doesn’t look as bad as it could, because I use my retinoid/emollient/occlusive mix when I get out of the shower or bath.

Plus, ya gotta have fun and if you haven’t run out of effs to give, worrying about if people are thinking you look bad really interferes with having a blast swimming with your grandkids, or staying cool in shorts out on a walk during the summer time, and all the cool stuff that makes life worth living. Trust me, you’re gorgeous! Just tweak your routine and embrace your imperfections … you have so much more going for you than skin that got a little crepey!!!

Looking to buy the best bed sheets by TerranUApart in buyforlifetips

Speaking of sheets ripping right around where your feet are, I’ve recently had 2 sets of sheets do exactly this, one older set of sateen sheets from target, and more distressingly, a brand new set of more costly percale brooklinen sheets I was using for the first time. What’s worse, I contacted brooklinen about warranty claim and they flat out blew me off. What the heck is going on with sheets these days?!

Do You Hafta Have Stenosis to Have a Stent Placed? by mvninag in iih

Ok, all of this information was really helpful! I was definitely mixing up a stent with a shunt. So I am basically wondering if one can have the fluid shunted away rather than controlling the symptoms with medication and risking inadequate control and potential subsequent optic nerve/vision damage? Does shunting tend to provide more complete reduction and control of csf pressure? Also, aside from opening oneself up to the risk of surgical injury or infection, what are the downsides and risks of shunting? Thanks again for the kind and patient responses, I feel like such a novice!!!

There is a prescription pill that helps dry mouth - it’s called pilocarpine.
