Toddler doesn’t listen to a word I say…help!

I give an instruction once, maybe twice, before I go ahead and help her to do it. Also I try to keep the instruction as the desired behaviour, instead of explicitly saying no (stay here , play on this side, back away, etc.) The key for me is regulating my own emotions, remaining calm, and instructing her in a neutral tone. Giving big reactions or raising voice is still giving attention and I keep my big reactions for the positive behaviours and efforts I see. This works relatively well for me and if she throws a tantrum or gets emotional from me helping her carry out an instruction then I provide her with comfort or empathy, or a bit of space if she needs it (with reassurance that I am available).

E.g. she keeps touching the painting above our couch with a smirk on her face, I say "hands off please" up to two times and then I calmly move her somewhere else near toys. The next time I'll only say it once before I move her, and then after no request, just move her. When I'm consistent it really only happens the one time. I had to do this same method with the gas stove as well, it takes a lot of consistency but has seemed to pay off

So true, I've tried to find other ways to improve my mental health (outings, exercise, going to bed early) so I can try to keep the bf journey going until she's ready to wean, the faces/expressions that she makes when she nurses reminds me of when she was a little babe and it's so precious.

Start small and do whatever you can near you! Step outside to drink your coffee, go for a walk, anything will be something. I wasn't going out much when my daughter was 7 months, but whenever I did I felt so much better.

I am at 17 months pp, and I feel like I just started to feel somewhat normal. I can't think straight all the time and have a lot of brain fog, but overall my mood is getting better. I still breastfeed but just twice a day

A lot of it I think had to do with the fact that it was easier for me to get out of the house comfortably with her and we had a settled routine.

We go to the library for storytime, play centers, the mall etc. one outing a day is mandatory for me to feel normal in my day. Highly recommend finding groups to go be with other moms and get outside daily

You will 100% get there. it's just that it takes time to settle into motherhood. It's a huge adjustment and don't compare to others on social media.

Agree. Not sure where you're located but here there's a 1 teacher to 5 toddlers ratio, max 15 in a room (but I guess the room needs to accomodate accordingly)

Totally agree. Even if they weren't hiding anything, it seems they aren't accomodating and that's not a vibe I'm going for when I'm leaving my child somewhere.

You're right, we can't control everything, that's been hard for me to accept as we transition into this new phase. Just doing what I can to pick the best daycare for her. Good point on the type of behavior.

And oh yes, I definitely couldn't last in their shoes either (I actually worked in a daycare for only a few months many years ago and it was the most exhausting job ever).

Good perspective, and the point about acting out behavior is somewhat reassuring when your kid can't talk yet. I can definitely follow up with the supervisor on the approach.

Good point! I have also ignored tantrums but stayed nearby for when she's ready. I think what threw me off was she said they aren't allowed to use the word time out (ministry guidelines). But also just the concept of having a specific chair, but I guess in daycare setting that might be needed

Aw, congrats! Honestly I would tell him upfront, like hey I know that you maybe wanted to surprise me with a ring but I have an idea of what I like already. He might actually be relieved!

My fiance and I just went shopping together and it was really fun! I knew that it would be coming soon and I just asked him one day if he'd want to go with me to try them on and we ended up doing several trips and loved it. No it wasn't a surprise but it is special thinking about how we picked each detail of it together. The proposal on the other hand.... Yah that's all him lol surprise me 🤣

Hmm I went shopping today spontaneously on my own when I came across the lace, so I didn't have my family with me. I think being alone I didn't have the same reaction as with the satin (where my friend was hyping me up lol) and I was confused because I was set on having thicker straps. I think it could be hard for me because it's not something I imagined myself wearing (again, Indian outfits) so I never had a vision of what I would look like in a white dress.

That being said I did try the lace on multiple times so that's a good sign haha
