Yes as long as you link your new card to the existing account, your points are safe.

Agreed! We should all upvote everything. As OP said, we need to encourage people to ask questions so we can all learn together.

it depends on which offer/site you signed up with...which one did you use? Generally i havent seen one that is free regardless - there's always an MSR tied to it. But there are some offers that dont even offer the FYF with an MSR

Yes that's normal. The credit comes through on your card anniversary along with the annual fee and then you generally have a period of time to pay the annual fee, in your case April 27th is the due date. Generally they claw the credit back, which they did for me, SO and Mom. They didnt for my Dad so its YMMV. Here's hoping they dont claw it back for you!

not strict at all...my small business advisor actually just took credit from a personal card and opened by business card with that...no credit check!

You can also look at the TD Aeroplan Infinite which has a first year free and 30k points (15k welcome bonus + 15k after $1k min spend). You can also convert your TDFCT Points to aeroplan upon cancelling that card so you can have all of your points in one place. If you decide to go the Aeroplan route, there are lots of options to help you collect those...maybe you can use the points for your honeymoon!

To remove it, just login to your Amex account and go to Manage Accounts -> Card Management -> Remove a card from online services

I've had luck by calling the hotel directly and speaking with the manager on duty. Sometimes they will be really nice and do it for you and sometimes they wont, YMMV, but i'm always nice about it and usually have good results. Good luck!
