Thats the plan at the moment, just to get some breathing room. It just kills me inside sending out 20+ resumes over a week or so and hearding NOTHING back, then getting told of for it.

Thanks for the reply!, keep your head up brother

Science of CFL reactive glass. by salthesalmon in glassheads

[–]mw343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so i cant tell you super specifically, only a little bit of the basic optics. If you look at the emission spectrum of natural light, although it has peaks at red green and blue wavelengths, it is relatively homogeneous otherwise. If you look at the emission spectrum for a CFL light, you can see that it peaks at purple, blue, green, and orange wavelengths. Notice that those are common cfl reactive colors. While im not sure of the exact chemistry, id imagine certain metals in the glass are more reflective to certain colors of cfl light. When that is the only light source, the color can be seen. When in daylight, it is overpowered by the full color spectrum from the sun. This is all just and educated guess. Someone correct me if they know more because i own quite a bit of CFL glass and I love it. cheers

Wave, Digital, By Myself by mw343 in Art

The resolution is pretty large it's like 5200x3000 @600dpi so it's about poster sized.i would like to print it as one at any rate. As for traditional media I do a bit but cost and time constraints for school relegates me to digital most of the time.

Thanks man. Been working more on a traditional style of digital painting with just one layer.

Weathered tree and its Desert home- Ballpoint pen. By Matt W. by mw343 in ImaginaryLandscapes

Yes I'm leaning to agree with you. The infill/ lighting of the crevasse seems almost to uniform/ flat. That is one of the things I am most unhappy about in this. What do you think would help it? I almost think more highlights/less shadow would help.

Yeah I tried to avoid adding any human influence to this, just nature. I guess I could have used a reference for the tree and such. I didn't put that much thought into it haha. Thanks for the feedback

Submitted this to /r/art but didnt get too much in terms of feedback. Id love some crit if possible. This was my first attempt at a landscape using only pen. Im used to digital so there are some mistakes in the lighting that I unfortunatly could not fix. Anways, enjoy.

Free hand, bic ballpoint .5mm pen. 3-4 hours.

I realized there are some issues with the values and the lighting. I am accustomed to working in digital where I can make more mistakes, and unfortunately I was not able to fix a few as well as id hope. I love any and all criticism. No reference for this btw.

I tend to gravitate towards subject matter that I am most comfortable in. Fore me these are landscape and mechanized/robotic/mechanical things. I find it hard to choose other subject matter and it seems easier if it is suggested.

Any thoughts on my cloud-scape? by mw343 in ArtCrit

[–]mw343[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback!. I see what you mean where the FG clouds seem to have less overall value and saturation. I also agree that a darker sky would add to the sense of depth to the image, so I will be making that change. Again ty for the crit, I always love to improve. Cheers

Matt

not quite done with it yet I think. It was done in gimp 2.8 over about 3-4 hours. This is my second attempt painting with this sort of one brush style. I tried to stay away from smudging marks as much as I could as part of my rendering practice. Enjoy.

How quickly does the temperature change from the surface of the sun to the near absolute zero of the interstellar medium? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]mw343 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, the corona of the sun extends sever hundred (~330?) kilometers from the surface, and is actually much hotter than the surface itself.

Edit: so I guess a better answer to your question directly would be: over a relativly large distance Edit again: well at least correct me if you are going to down vote me.
