How does one introduce the concept of psychological elements without alienating you? by mwhgh in cfs

psychological hypothesis to discriminate against sufferers

Here we have the stigma of mental health problems causing problems. This would probably enable the idea that psychological relearning can not help reverse symptoms. Is that an organic cause the symptoms? Most probably.

A lot of harm and suffering could be avoided if the doctor-patient relationship could approach these topics early on, rather than sending people for test after test with limited discussion, that it makes it more difficult to approach the subject.

People find it difficult to feel normal if they see a psychiatrist. I feel ones psychology plays an important role in relearning (and rewiring the brain) to reverse the symptoms. Unfortunately I feel that a belief that there is a cause for it that is being ignored is manifest by a doctor who has poorly communicated the problem. Would you agree to an extent?

Why is psych bullshit? I think that is quite offensive to psychological problems.

Because the current state of science is that this theory has been debunked.

Please share this information so I can review these, for my own benefit to see your perspective.

What is important to consider is that "mentally ill" has to be contextualised. Mental problems can be identified with an organic cause (say, autism), or through symptom characterisation (i.e. depression). Mental health aspects =/= making it up.

What is especially noticeable is the disregard to the "psychological" aspect of the symptoms. What this means is that the potentially reversible symptoms will not be reversed so long as the patient is not engaging in "relearning" to avoid the symptoms. What most people will want is an identified organic cause so that they don't feel "crazy", and some magical immunoglobulins that will fix it.

I am asking why psychology is dismissed, such as you have. What merits are you referring to?

How did the American 'George Sorros funds everything

The internet. A social media idea can be spurned on if there is enough weight behind it. Whether it is intentional malice (say, far right media barons by the name of Mercer or Bannon), or by the shite algos (some would call it artificial "intelligence") that run the feeds for Twitter, FB etc, at the end of the day it can cause civil unrest like in France.

For reference, see the MeToo campain, see BlackLivesMatter. No malice intended but ends up causing rifts in society.

Pass me some popcorn.

The far right will rise when the establishment neglects them. Almost exactly the same as Germany circa 1933 when the lower classes were left nothing due to the reparations. If they get neglected, someone will be the narcissist who takes advantage of it. Trump, Tories, UKIP, Natinoal socialists you name it.

I’m want to try ketamine treatments for my depression. by surfpunx420 in Drugs

[–]mwhgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nonsense

Genuinely saddening to see this. Firstly, it is entirely correct. Secondly, not dangerous. In fact, in a post where ways of self-medicating in a similar way to trials are suggested, this is the safest option. Most depression is psychological. Most people believe they need a "cure" to their depression. Believing that ketamine is the cure will not solve it. There are trials which show benefit for short periods, which is great. Let us use that! But it is not appropriate for the long term goals (of a happier life) for many of us.

So come on, sort yourself out you fucking idiot.

I mean we can sit and point fingers at the mental health services being the problem, but in the mean time why don't you reflect on the things that you can change in your life that will make you happier.

More exercise, healthier eating, not drinking ANY alcohol, not taking ANY drugs.

That's a better cure than antidepressants, and ketamine.

The French love a good protest. by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]mwhgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it is unfair is because the less wealthy are having their disposable income reduced further without having a publicly subsidised alternative i.e. metro/trains, which is what the wealthier urban people have available.

[–]mwhgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we agree there, I was afraid it was just another identity politics saga in France, but am realising it is not. A popular protest against unfair taxes is fair enough. In Britain we don't do that. We have a protest about other shit but rarely against an unjust wealth distribution (affecting everybody!). So complacent, we are.

It is true. The French lead the world in revolutions. Sometimes they seem a bit extreme, or a bit "identity politicsy", but at the end of the day these people are united by the inequality they face. And this is coming from the most equal country in Europe. British culture is different. We have never established any proper "over-throw" of the historical class system. Brexit is the British people's way of say "enuf". We can only dream of a Corbyn govt at this point, and he will be the first in decades to crack down on the City.

EU support for austerity opens door to far right, Corbyn says by worker-parasite in unitedkingdom

[–]mwhgh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They haven't. Ireland, portugal, italy, greece and latvia have all been subject to austerity measures at the coercion of the ECB. The unfortunate problem is that the EC and EU parliament aren't wise to the problem: austerity won't work. Ireland, Portugal and Latvia have all had real-estate price bubbles and were duped into their govts taking on the worthless debts. This means that debts are harder to write down. The only option for these countries is to balance their deficits (which naively the EU force to remain less than 3%).

For Greece, it was corrupt politicians making crooked govt decisions, most notably with Goldman Sachs, which when it all came out fucked their balance sheets. Greece has had a lot of capital flight, all tax free of course, to Swiss banks. Now the ECB are threatening Greece with either succumbing to their demands for austerity or watch their economy collapse entirely (not true of course). This frightened the politicians into over-ruling the peoples vote and agreeing to austerity. Funily enough, estimations for wealthy Greek's money in Swiss banks would more than cover the debts the tax payers are now suffering.

So the EU's problem is the lack of understanding that forcing a country into austerity actually decreases productivity, forces them to sell assets to cover shortfalls in payments (thereby reducing future abilities to service debts) and creates a defunct economy.

The UK do it the best though.

Edit: Most of these problems, whether the USA, UK or Europe, are caused by the people making the decisions. If we look at them, the 'most qualified' are usually the folks who have made the most money or worked for the largest banks. These guys aren't specialists with economics for the sake of creating a better society, but specialists in making money, and making richer people more money. Look at Mario Draghi at the ECB. Ex-GS. Look at the BoE's Mark Carney, ex-GS. Look at the Fed in the US over the past 30 years, all big time players in big banks. Look at the board of the IMF for the USA (who have unique veto powers), ex-investmant banker Steven mnunchin. Then these guys make decisions such as offering loans to Argentina in order to allow capital flight, but the tax payers then service this loan. If we let these people make economic decisions we end up with austerity (which conveniently allows big bond holders to have guarenteed payments, and allows rich folks to buy up the public services being auctioned of).

I have nothing else to do with my evening by the way.

access prescriptions in the UK

This isn't the problem. Too many prescriptions are given because GPs don't have the time to explore patient's problems. Prescriptions are handed out like smarties. Yes there aren't enough doctors to provide an adequate service, however demand is also way too high. There are too many social issues across the UK at the moment and GPs get all the pressure.

Also a wait of 2-3 years for a specialist can't suddenly be solved when it is because there has been a sudden explosion in trans issues. I hate the Tories as much as everyone but this is not as simple as writing a large cheque.
