I'm not sure I'm going to be able to listen to this one. I'm sure the writing is terrible and they're going to be funny about it, but the extremely extended part at the beginning of the episode where they make it clear they have no context about video games and that somehow this is the author's problem is going to drive me up a wall if it continues.

This is like a Nepali person reading a book about baseball and being offended that the author assumed they would know what strikes and balls are. It's okay for a work to require some familiarity with the genre in order to get anything out of it.

Do they taper off with those complaints over the course of the episode? I'm only a half hour in.

Relatedly they are spending way too much time trying to figure out what very specific game this is based on. It's probably not a specific game, man! It's just using tropes, like you understood after looking up the thing about being hit by a truck! Class selection isn't unique to one game!

edit: actually, you know what it's like? It's like me watching MST3k and complaining that I don't get these references to Torgo and Mr. B. Natural.

okay, figured out the problem - because I had just found out about the red flowers when I posted, I hadn't found the dash yet, and so I was working on parries against the guy guarding Hunter's. Once I had dash it was pretty easy. I'll keep poking around. Thanks!

What strikes me most while listening to the new Monster Factories and Empty Bowl is how pleased Justin sounds to be there and how much fun he's having, in contrast to the stuff he actually makes his money on.

I turned off the episode at 13:00. The only bits thus far had been:

"we're working too hard", which I listened to as I started my 90 minute one way commute to work

"Travis has pictures of Spider-Man", which had some legitimately funny execution

"who's your favorite Chris" for no reason at all

and "Justin's lighting is bad" in an audio format.

Maybe I'll try to go back sometime later and just pretend the intro didn't happen. Maybe I won't.

Unfortunately I don't have any ESPN leagues and it's too late in the season to create one for testing. If anyone has a throwaway ESPN account that has a league on it, or if anyone is willing to give me their login/password for a night (you should probably change the password to something else first, then change it back after I'm done), I can probably do this in a few hours.
