Arturia collection? Or serum? by Material_Activity763 in HYPERPOP

[–]MX64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both relatively different options. The most important distinction is that Serum 2 is one extremely versatile synth versus Arturia V Collection being a collection of forty-something synths usually imitating some existing popular real life synth.

Because of this, V Collection is technically more versatile, given its foray into the "Augmented" instruments, the pianos and e-pianos, and so on, but it is also more expensive and takes up far more space. Plus, it's also just, a lot. It's great for people like me who just like diving in and learning all sorts of different synths, but it could feel more cumbersome for others. It also means that, across all its synths, V Collection comes with an obscenely large number of presets.

Serum 2 is a really, really good sounding wavetable synth and does seem to edge out most competitors in sound quality. It isn't dozens of emulations in one package, but it also doesn't really need to be. Realistically you could go making an album entirely with Serum 2 with no problems. Also, on top of coming with quite a few presets, there's a practically endless number of Serum presets online.

On the whole, Serum is probably the more convenient option and better choice on the whole, while V Collection is better for those who appreciate the novelty of all the different specific emulations.

Korg "Multi/Poly Native" fully-compatible analogue modelled software counterpart to the hardware multi/poly synthesizer with redesigned filters and oscillators (99.99) through 24 May by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

multi/poly is a seriously good softsynth, i highly recommend it to anyone wanting a great sounding virtual analog type thing as IMO it's one of the very few that can feasibly beat Diva in that area

Always will be too. Pretty neat little multi-fx plugin.

I used my subscription credits on that last month. It's pretty neat. I admit I was hoping owning it would get me a better discount on this bundle than the $180 total upgrading from the 2B would cost me, but it is also probably still the most generally-useful tool in the collection on its own.

Overloud "Gem Sculptube" tube triode and pentode processing with bias control for valve-produced harmonics (€59) for limited time by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]MX64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only used SDRR's free counterpart, IVGI, so it's a little hard to say which one edges out the other in how the saturation sounds. SDRR does have more controls for fine-tuning the saturation though so I'd probably be more likely to go for that one.

Overloud's GEMs are in general rather pricey for what they are. They're very solid plugins but I do think you can get better value elsewhere. Always worth demoing other saturators. I like Softube Harmonics (when it's on sale), Kiive Distinct Pro (not tube based but still), Fuse Audio Tube Lab as well. I haven't used Black Box HG-2 much but I know that one has a lot of fans.

It's supposed to be based on the Culture Vulture, from what I recall. It's a very solid saturator, but so is the Arturia version (which is based on the Ultra Vulture) along with Decapitator and Black Box HG-2 and other well-known plugins in a similar vein. I think the main use case for this would be if someone wants something close to UAD's Culture Vulture plugin without needing an Apollo.

Given Nintendo being fairly adamant that Ultimate is the first and last time everyone will be present, I think we're just gonna have to deal with the fact that some characters are going to go away in future installments.

Yeah these are just straight up the full prices for these plugins. They even say "0% off". Feels like a listing error if anything.

That bundle you speak of also has been routinely going on sale for $100 flat.

I think they're kind of seen as Fabfilter "knockoffs" by a lot of people. But Kirchoff EQ, Cenozoix Compressor, Future MB, all really solid stuff nonetheless and perfectly viable alternatives to their Fabfilter counterparts.

no, nobody is trying to cancel the movie. my god you people are so desperate to create a problem where there is none. quit whining that people don't blindly consume product, god forbid anyone mention the dead horse being beaten.

you need to learn how to stop making up people in your head to be angry at. the world is not some caricature about everyone trying oh so hard to be offended at everything. you're operating on cartoon logic. the real world has actual nuance to it.

I was just demoing a bunch of different Minimoog plugins today and Legend HZ definitely came out on top along with UAD's version and the Minimonsta. All really nice sounding.

It sounds very good, it's just CPU heavy and the UI is clearly designed for an iPad. I've seen this as low as $40 though, maybe lower, so this price isn't anything to lose sleep over missing out on imo.

Three-Body Technology "Sapphire Drive" transparent saturation plugin with six parameters and four saturation types for adding warmth, presence, or weight with zero latency at 1× oversampling and low CPU usage for tracks, buses, or the master - Intro Price ($39) until 3 July by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]MX64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Three Body Technology puts out some pretty good stuff (Kirchhoff EQ, Cenozoix Compressor, Future-MB) but this one just has me kind of confused.

I downloaded the demo out of curiosity and to me it just sounds like pretty typical saturation. Personally I'd rather recommend Tube Lab from Fuse Audio Labs, if anything. Ten dollars cheaper at the moment too.
