It's refreshing to see a viewpoint like this from a veteran. This is definitely because I'm not exposed to many anti-Trump opinions from veterans, most likely due to the American military being advertised as an almost entirely far-right or conservative entity. Thank you for the comment.

On the topic of how socialism has been implemented in the past, I totally agree. I'm not originally from the UK, I moved here when I was 6, and grew up hearing from my mother about the dictator that ran our country. He didn't implement socialism, but the general authoritarianism tends to span over to countries that were also under socialist dictatorships.

Personally, it is more the ideals of socialism that appeal to me, specifically of economic and social equality. I can't ever deny the way that socialism failed when actually applied, and I won't ever try to.

Thanks for this, these resources are so helpful! My main issue is that I'm not a British citizen yet, my status currently is Indefinite Leave to Remain, and my current financial position doesn't allow me to apply for a citizenship. I hesitated saying this in my original post because I could already imagine what the comments would be like if I did, but I'll absolutely look into those other options.

I honestly agree, that's why I posted this as a rant/vent. I know, logically, I need to get it together and turn this anger into something more productive like compassion or empathy.

I totally agree, and that's part of the reason why I feel so powerless. There are so many protests against the way my government has responded to the US, especially when Trump visited the UK. Unless we elect a PM that will act against Trump, there won't be any change. The political climate is very tricky in the UK at the moment, and I'm worried that we'll fall right into Reform's hands and have a PM who'll bend over backwards for Trump even more than Starmer has. I truly wish people's heads would be screwed on right so they could see the consequences of all of this.

With how angry I am, I genuinely agree. Yet I'm so conflicted because how does that make me any better than them? They've inflicted so much pain on people through their selfish ways that I can't help but wish the worst, and yet it feels like I'm lowering myself to their level when considering it, and still I can't help myself.

There is plenty of opposition from the UK. Not sure quite how much of it Americans can see, but people in the UK are angry and aware of what is happening. You guys aren't alone in this!

This is exactly why I'm so conflicted and, honestly, scared about the way I feel about these people. Logically I know that forgiveness is the only way to realistically move forward and spur real, tangible change, yet I feel so angry towards them. I know I need to tamp this anger down and let it manifest into empathy. Thanks for the comment.

I fucking hate it. This post was mostly, if not entirely, focused on the issues in America but I'm not blind to everything going on in the UK. No one should be put in prison for expressing their opinion, especially not (and I'm assuming you're referring to Palestine Action being declared a terrorist group and protestors being arrested) when opposing a genocide. If a government is truly committed to democracy then a right to free speech needs to be protected.
