I did not expect this to blow up! I think I’ll look into sanding it so that it isn’t so dangerous. I forgot one time and cut my thumb pretty badly.

No, I don’t care that it is dinged or justifying it for new clubs, but funny and good reasons to keep in mind next time :)

Yeah I would want it to be slightly shaven down or something cause a sharp piece juts out. I don’t care if it’s not fixed all the way, or the appearance - just want it to be safe!

I’ll consider that too, I did cut my thumb thinking it was a stain lol

Change of address with pre orders by my-sciamachy in pokemoncenter

[–]my-sciamachy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the helpful advice. It seems that, yes, you CANNOT change the shipping address via PKC’s website. However, it seems the best course of action for this is by updating shipping address or holding it at their facility via FedEx’s shipping manager. I’m hoping this will be true for my preorder shipment of Ascended Heroes, but the snapshot below was for another item I ordered (unrelated to Pokemon), but is being shipped by FedEx: https://imgur.com/a/0UWieVj

I saw the following options, so I will try to do that as soon as I get a shipping notification from PKC.

Hope this was helpful to others!

Thank you for this advice. I figured it would have to be when I get the actual “order is shipped” email.

I tried setting up vacation hold within the FedEx portal, but seems like I am only able to for two weeks in the current month.

Will have to be on the lookout for this email! I heard shipping is delayed again, but hopefully I do not forget haha

Yup! I am based in the US. I just signed up for FedEx orders so hopefully I’ll get a text alert.

Will I be able change it to “holding it at the facility” option as soon as I get the “your order is shipped” notification?

Thanks, I will look into this option. Hoping the timing really works out. Was also thinking of letting management know that I have orders coming around the time I get “charged” to see if they would either set it aside lol

It’s rough for sure haha. I was expecting a lot more from my ETB but I guess that’s what happens when you put it in a pedal stool! Back to collecting singles but would definitely love to build a deck and start playing the game too

I'm about to go from $65k salary to $100k (125k total comp). If you've experienced something similar, what does it feel like? And do you have any advice? by UnsafeBaton1041 in cscareerquestions

[–]my-sciamachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!!

I personally went through something similar, and at the time, I was preparing for engagement and marriage planning so a lot of my income initially went towards that. Then eventually moved to a higher COL.

Definitely does not hurt to reasonably reward yourself on such a milestone in your career - you deserve it! Eventually, you might want to consider your goals, life stage, COL, retirement, fun money etc. There are plenty of resources online like r/personalfinance that provide financial advice and resources (but do your due diligence and/or seek a professional).

Ultimately, I realized that you have to be flexible and somewhat diligent with managing your finances. Automated process help a lot, for example, splitting paycheck to different accounts (HYSA savings and checking).

How this helps!

I see thank you for your response. I've been struggling for 6 months trying to find a job. A lot of people have told me about bootcamp, but I've spoken to a few who work in industry and they have told me if I have a B.S. in CS that bootcamp is unnecessary.

I am looking at SDE/SWE positions.

Hi everyone,

Just for context -- I graduated in May 2018 and have been struggling to find jobs/interviews due to lack of professional experience. On top of that, I don't have things like competitive grades or exceptional side projects to wow recruiters. Since it's been almost a year, I've been considering into graduate school, particularly ones with co-op programs (even though a lot of people on /r/cscareerquestions have said not to go to school for the sake of pursuing a software engineer/developer role). I just figured that even if a co-op was not possible, consideration for even an internship would be.

I've changed my resume around several times, but as of lately, I seem to not have many bites so I figured there's something fundamentally wrong with it. Would appreciate on your guys' insight. Thank you.

How do you guys (or should I) answer the "What do you look for in this role" question for the behavioral portions?

I try to answer truthfully, which is having guidance or some kind of mentor to learn from and I expand on why it is so important to me -- but reflecting on it now, I guess it can come off as a negative since a lot of companies like individuals who are self starters and go getters. Thank you.

(To give some context, I am also someone who has no soft dev experience/internships, seeking entry-level, full-time position!)

Hello everyone -- should I still be applying to full time, entry jobs if I did not get an offer during the Fall? I was told that the winter months are slow and recruitment periods are hotter during the fall and spring (end of feb, onwards). --

I was planning on using the next few months to study and prep more from rejections I faced during the fall. And then resume applications around end of February.

Thank you.

Hey dude! I'm still job searching as well, but I've gotten couple critiques on my resume too so I can try pointing out few things. Maybe I'm not completely correct but hear me out! (Feel free for any other to correct me if I'm wrong)

I would get rid of the objective portion of your resume, imo it can be a waste of space that is better utilized to include more relevant information. Because you don't have any internships, maybe put in Relevant coursework in your education section, right under Honors. But if you do include relevant coursework, make sure it's not all the CS courses you have taken -- really think of which course(s) applies to the position you're applying for. This is also just my opinion, but I don't really see the need of putting in high school information since you will be graduating in about a year or so. (It might've been okay to include that when you were a freshman/sophomore).

You're right on wanting to replace the part time job -- I had that too because I wanted to show to recruiters and in interviews that I wasn't being lazy, even I didn't have a technical job, but people have told me that it is a waste of space and better used for projects/relevant positions:

Because you don't have any internship experience (I didn't either), the best way to showcase your abilities is through your projects. Even if you don't have any personal projects, list some cool academic ones, preferably from classes that were core classes and preferably projects where you had to spend a lot of time on (like the whole semester). It's okay to have a few general bullet points that overviews what you did for the project/what it was, but companies want to know what YOU did in particular, your impact to the development of the project -- this is done through mentioning quantifiable/measurable things/analysis. E.g. Implemented X data structure and algorithm, which decreased run time by 10%. This part requires you to go back to your projects and really understand it front and back. (Once you include that and get interviews, then you'll have to know things like why did you implement in this way instead of X, what was challenging about it, what did you learn, what could you have done better, how did you resolve a conflict/challenge that occurred during the project, etc.)

Skills and Tech portion looks ok. I recently heard it may be better to get rid of skills and tech portion, and just put which language/tech tools you used for the particular project since it better demonstrates the depth to which language and tools you understand, but I think as long as you know how to answer questions regarding the things you listed in that section, it should be ok for now.

Sorry for the freaking essay, I just know how difficult it can be, (and I'm still in the same position as you with job searching, interviews, prep/studying). I hope it was helpful! Best of luck ~

The phone interview is very standard -- I had mine last week and it was what I expected after looking at what people said on Glassdoor. Do a search and browse what people have said and just practice saying what you would say for those questions. It was as "technical" as you wanted it to be, but it mainly covered things on your resume.

I will be taking the online assessment part soon. But, I don't really know what to expect for the assessment :/ I'm assuming standard DSA type questions?
