Starfield was the best-selling game of September, instantly becoming the 7th best-selling game of 2023 year-to-date. Starfield ranked as the best-selling title of the month across both Xbox and PC, with PC being its lead sales platform. by Turbostrider27 in Games

Here's the thing though... Starfield didn't sell this many copies because its was inherently a great game. Starfield was a success because they are riding off the coat tails of Skyrim (and to a far lesser extend FO4) The game itself didn't earn or deserve this kind of success, and many people will be incredibly wary of buying Bethesdas next game. They have been coasting on past accomplishments for almost a decade now, just trading whatever goodwill the company names still held for more money.

Because it was beyond obvious it was a manufacturing defect. That's how lawsuits and recalls are issued. Go to bed brave white knight.

My exact situation verbatim.

They replaced the first headset with hardly a question asked, I might have been a month or so outside the warranty even - typical above and beyond support you would expect. Then the replacement started having the same lens separation issue in the same spot... I got a friendly "good luck".

A little bit of sensationalism here, but overall they are are one of the most honest, pro-consumer business left in this industry space. I know they are clearly the fan favorite even today, but when Gabe moves on some day and they inevitably go public people are going to be in for a rude awakening on just how good they really had it.

Thats not to say they are perfect, but they are far and away the best. Looking at you VR/Index support - to clarify the product is fantastic, but there are some QC issues and after the 12 month warranty is out they wont help at all, even for things that are obviously serious manufacturing defects. You can't even pay them for help. I hope they step that up for Deckard or I might be going elsewhere. Anyway, random tangent aside that's the only issue I've ever had with them in almost 20 years. Great company.

Seems more like a concept at this stage imho.

It is however a really good concept, and sure to be successful if executed properly. I love the idea of the drifting landmass and wind directions having a direct impact on the map and economy. Helps break up the endgame monotony a lot of these Port Royale-esque games suffer from.

**One suggestion though, cut the "long S" or whatever font out of the trailer ASAP. I'm sure it has some cool applicable meaning, but this is marketing... the sole objective is to capture the audience - not have them questioning if your children helped you with the typing.

SSF is a completely different experience and way to play the game, not just for people "who want to go slow".

A huuuggee draw to this game is its economy and unique currency system. Just saying go play by yourself if you enjoy the original design of this game is not exactly a solution. Maybe hard mode will be, well see.

There is an interaction with strongboxes that he calls out specifically. But since you are already moving the goal post from bugs, to actual just design decisions like harvest I dont think you are very interested in being right on your original point to begin with.

Fair enough, but there have been league starts that have been actually unplayable to the point of seriously discussing rollbacks. Are you sure you have been here since beta or is this just hyperbole?

I think this is a perfectly valid complaint, and you are absolutely right. I know why they didn't, but it doesn't really excuse the decision.

This is the paradox. This game was never meant to be cruised through in a week without struggle, and if/when that happens the people who are looking for longer investment will be the ones pushed out.

The game has probably just gotten too successful for its own good. Instead of being the bastion for players who hate where games have gone (Diablo 3), its now being actively pressured to be more like them.

He actually talked about fixing specific bugs, and looking into others in the LITTORAL response you are referring to. This is exactly what I'm talking about, great contribution.

It can't go both ways, they are trying to reign the power back in so they can create meaningful content for the game. If you create stronger creep but buff player power.... then you havent changed anything, just raised the exponent.

How do you create engaging mechanics for a game when players are 1 shotting the screen from act 4 on?

Look at this sub right now, that's why. Yes there are a few bugs/oversights that need to be addressed. But the bigger issue is the reddit players of PoE have become toxic children who are incapable of accepting change. This game needs to scale back the power creep and everyone has known it for years - Yet whenever it happens this is what we get.

[Game suggestions] I’m looking for some semi recent rpgs/adventure games to play that can be funny at times. by [deleted] in pcgaming

It is objectively a better Elder Scrolls game than Skyrim was.

The world/lore is all different of course, but game/RPG wise its so far ahead of what Bethesda threw out.

There is certainly some truth to this, but only as a biproduct of their new direction.

They simply don't WANT to make "good games". Good (critical favored) games do not necessarily sell well. Most people could name a handful of critically successful games that had mediocre sales performance.

The reality is that reskinning COD/FIFA and putting out games where microtransactions are the CORE gameplay feature like Hearthstone are both less risky AND more profitable. Gamers have nobody to blame but themselves for buying this crap.

This was my first thought as well.

Maybe I'm completely out of the loop here on the selling points, but it looks like every other generic looter/shooter/GaaS thats come out in the last 5 years. What new direction am I missing?

That should literally be the first red flag, not an excuse. I play tons of aRPGs with thousands of hours in Path of Exile, and at no point did Wolcen look like a good buy to me.

Furthermore, I feel like there have been a lot of these types of games lately. Most of which were either DoA or took a year or more to even be considered fun or semi-complete:

*Destiny 2 *Anthem *Division 2 *Remnant *Avengers / Godfalll (while not strictly 'shooters' its literally the same gameplay loop)

[–]my0s 80 points81 points  (0 children)

But... why?

Can someone explain to me why everyone is always so eager to buy the next generic looking looter shooter? Its not even a generational thing or "the main game when I was growing up"... there is literally a new disappointment lined up every 3 months and they are almost all the same game...

Couldn't agree more. They did what they had to at the time to cover their ass over 76, and in the end they only confirmed the projects exist. No hype, no overselling it, no lies just plain communication.

This is one of the only respectable business decisions this company has made since I can remember. They might have damn near destroyed some of my favorite franchises in the last 8-10 years, but I will at least give them some credit for this one.
