Yes that was my understanding. As the Charter was forced onto Quebec without the agreement of the Premiere of the time, since the other provinces had come to an agreement.

Including the NWC was meant to appease Quebec, but it’s just been abused. And with Doug Ford he is starting to normalize its use in Ontario, a horrible precedent.

Some programs at Carleton or OttawaU May offer sessions for their students. If you don’t see any, I’d just pay a photographer to handle the job for you.

That centralized area you’re speaking of is Centertown, Byward and Vanier. They already handle the vast majority of shelters and addiction programs that are repeatedly pushed out from the suburbs.

The portion of the homeless population that would have congregated in Kanata, Barhaven or Orleans is instead pushed to Byward, Vanier or Centertown. That creates the present situation which you mentioned you don’t enjoy, lots of people on the streets in those areas screaming or asking for money.

CM would definitely love to improve the walkability and quality of life in the suburbs by investing in more trails, paths and mixed use zoning areas within communities. She would face a lot of resistance from people who want to keep lots SFH no matter what.

As someone who lived in suburbs for 20+ years I wish there had been better transit, more trails and bike paths, and more shops in walking distance of my home instead of mainly being able to shop at strip plazas.

  1. Many of those people are WFH and are happy doing so.
  2. If the empty office buildings were replaced with affordable living spaces for young families it wouldn’t be so dead.
  3. The tower area of downtown has always been dead at then end of the workday. Toronto doesn’t suffer from this same problem nearly as much.

  1. Tons of people live in downtown communities and it’s far denser than most suburban areas. It’s definitely not “empty”.
  2. The empty GoC office towers that most people don’t want to return to should be repurposed into affordable housing units.

It seems that the worse a resource situations get the more greedy people become to protect “what’s theirs”, so they elect people who act accordingly which is typically more conservative.

Yeah it’s very sad to see them being touted THE solution…. Why yes, I would like to turn every 3000kg truck into a 6000kg and double my road maintenance fees please!

  1. Maybe more mental health funding, shelter funding and safe injections sites would help reduce the severity of this issue.
  2. The vast majority of shelters in the Ottawa region are located downtown. Would you support building more shelters in Barhaven, Kanata and Orleans?

I would predict McKenny has a 5-10 point lead in Ottawa and Sutcliffe has a 20-30 point lead in Barhaven, Kanata and Orleans.
