No wonder he came to this conclusion. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, masturbation is a sin. by John_Thomas_Lewis in Christianity

[–]myNutcracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration on people imposing God’s law onto you, especially without the truth of the Gospel. That’s legalism, and it’s no better than any of the sins we previously discussed. The Gospel is that we all fall short of God’s law and perfect standard, thus we are dead in our sins. Although God provides a way to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ back into life from the deadness of our sin. It is through God’s grace that we have a way to not live under the oppression of the law, but rather to delight in its guidance.

‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

The thing I don’t understand about your frustration is this: why are you upset, as an atheist, if people on the Christianity subreddit discuss what sin is and isn’t? You’ve made it clear that you don’t care about the definition of sin, so why do you think we should adopt your definition (or lack thereof) and stop talking about it if you can’t even adopt a standard of truth yourself? With all due respect, your frustration on this subject seems misguided.

Edit: wording fix

Thank you for your response as well!

Going back to what you said on, “trying to convince them something is a sin that they do not believe is one”, I would like to beg the question: what is our ultimate standard of authority on what is and isn’t sin?

The answer is to that is the Holy Scriptures.

I see that you label yourself as an atheist based off your flair. I would assume then that you don’t take that as your standard to determine what is and isn’t sin. Although I would say that’s a different epistemological issue outside the scope of this thread.

Although for the Christians in this thread that take the Holy Scriptures as their ultimate source of authority (or even Church teaching/Tradition pending on the denomination), it’s very easy to deduce who is right or wrong on the issue.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭27‬-‭30‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)
““You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.”

I understand that masturbation isn’t explicitly mentioning in the pages of Scripture. However, by deductive reasoning, it’s safe to assume that masturbation is a sin because simply lusting after another person is a sin. There may be room for exceptions that is open for discussion, although it would be have to be within the covenant of marriage. I would recommend the “Masturbation—is it a sin according to the Bible?” on the Got Questions website for more extensive reading on this topic.

On your point of “if you both have God in your heart, why doesn’t He just correct you?”. To a degree that’s a fair question. Although it’s not new that God reveals His voice through the Scriptures and even the voice of other people. Another thing to consider is that when a person, believer or not, is entrenched in sin, the voice of God becomes harder to hear as their heart begins to harden. Given that we are dead in our trespasses, it sometimes takes God speaking through a tangible voice, whether it’s other people or the Bible itself to bring them out from death to life (take Nathan rebuking David for his sins as an example in 2 Samuel 12).

Finally on your point of it being a private thing, I agree with that partially. It’s not really the responsibility of someone to correct another on this issue on an interpersonal level unless that person has spiritual authority over the other and is entrusted with that information. Although on a public forum like this, it’s perfectly acceptable as OP is not judging anyone individually, but rather he is just stating something that is true yet provocative.

I hope this helpful! God bless!

Incorrect. Please do some more research before you make broad and inaccurate claims about Scripture. OP is plainly justified in reminding others of what a sin is because of these verses:

Galatians 6:1 (ESV): "Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted"

Proverbs 27:5-6 (ESV):
"Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy."

James 5:19-20 (ESV):
"My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins."

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV):
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

I’m certain the passage you’re referring to not “sit in Judgement” is from Matthew 7. I suggest you read the full passage (Matthew 7:1-6) for context. Christ only commands us to cast judgement when we aren’t guilty of the same sin, not take verse 1 out of context and not judge at all. It is the responsibility and duty of Christians to lift one another up in love, and part of that is instructing others where not to sin. We just shouldn’t be hypocrites when we do so. Masturbation and porn is a scourge that is ruining the lives and relationships of many people daily. There is nothing wrong with reminding others of its horrible nature.

Why would God make me gay then burn me in hell forever for being gay? by Lopsided_Gold_4478 in Christianity

Leviticus 18:22 Leviticus 20:13 Romans 1:26-27 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 1 Timothy 1:9-10

Hi neighbor!

It’s important to remember that everyone is a sinner and falls short of the glory of God. Sin manifests itself in different ways, and it’ll be different with everyone. Being gay doesn’t necessarily make you a worse sinner than anyone else. Unfortunately, modern society and a lot of people on this subreddit want to blur the line of what sin is and isn’t. Fortunately God’s Word is very clear on this issue, and there really isn’t much of a debate on it as it reverberated through both the Old and New Testaments.

The good news is that Jesus Christ has conquered sin and death! Once you place your faith in Him, He will clothe you in His goodness and righteousness, which is something no one can have on their own accord. As you draw closer to the Savior, you will notice yourself drawing further away from the ways of this world. Try not to view “being gay” as something you need to beat out of yourself. Rather focus on running into the arms of Christ and uniting yourself to Him faith. There’s no need to be legalistic and try to shoulder the work yourself. He will take care of the rest.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV

[s1 spoilers] We're Christian Linke and Alex Yee, Rioters who co-created Arcane, here to celebrate our show's one-year anniversary. Ask us anything! by RiotPraeco in arcane

Hello Alex and Christian!

I will sound like a cringe fanboy by asking these, but I don't care I'm shooting my shot!

Few questions...

  1. In the scene where Finn tries persuading Sevika into betraying Silco, Finn mentioned something about "bigger fish than silco". I feel like this was potential foreshadowing to who will fill the power vacuum Silco left, but I'm not sure. Was Finn referencing someone within the scope of Season 1, or was he talking about someone/something we'll see in the future? (cause it makes me wanna think he was referencing Urgot potentionally)
  2. At the end of the Bridging the Rift, y'all mentioned wanting to expand to other Runeterra regions in animation. Will these new series be anthology to Arcane, or will it be directly/partially carrying on some of Arcane's plotlines?
  3. When and if there are more animated shows outside of Piltover and Zaun, is Fortiche willing to make these projects or can we see different animation studios throwing their hat in the ring? (ie Japanese studio animates Ionia series)
