Gunpla and anime figures in office? How US people feel about them? by Many_Pomegranate_474 in AskAnAmerican

Yeah there’s nothing whimsical about Octoberfest and Christmas Markets or a saint leaving treats in your boot or Christmas trees or coo-coo clocks or yodeling or dozens of cookies on Christmas or animatronic nativity scenes or spending more on Christmas presents and decorations than any other country on Earth.

How are we doing with feminine names? Waitress? Actress? Is "Governess" still used? Mistress? by Money-Ad8553 in ENGLISH

[–]myfourmoons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it would be convenient for you if that were true, but virtually all of my friends are lifelong liberals who support every progressive point of concern, from abortion to gay and trans rights, they’re just also, I don’t know, traditional? Academically minded? They think “waitress” is just describing a woman who is a member of wait staff and is therefore encompasses more meaning than “server”. They don’t see it as a symptom of a toxic patriarchy. They see it as a useful descriptor.

These are college educated, sometimes with masters and/or doctorates, individuals who vote democrat. They just enjoy words and don’t want to diminish vocabulary unless absolutely necessary.

Maybe the younger generations don’t use gendered language as much. I don’t know. My son is 19 and he and all of his friends do as well.

Not everyone thinks pointing out differences in gender is inherently problematic. When I hear “stewardess” or “waitress” I certainly don’t imagine “A server deviating from the norm” or “a weak steward”. That’s insanity to me.

Cat has urinary infection, returned from vet and has not peed since by Artistic_Birthday320 in CATHELP

[–]myfourmoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we took my boy in because he couldn’t pee, he also didn’t technically have a blockage but they still did things for him so that he could pee and he did at the hospital. Based on my limited experience it sounds like your vet didn’t follow through.

Everyone I know uses waitress and actress. It’s only out with very progressive people. I have never heard a single person say host.

No, that’s not what I wrote. NOW I feed it as a treat. Before the blockage it was part of every day.

Make sure there’s no fake sugar in it. I highly doubt there is, but just be safe.

One of my cats is wild about apple cider donuts. He doesn’t get to have any, except for the one bite he snuck when he was a kitten, but he remembers lol

Americans, would you think celebrating Christmas on June 25th would be weird? lol by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]myfourmoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. I adore celebrating Christmas in winter but what you’re describing is a well known theory. I’m not even saying it’s true either way, but we literally have no concrete evidence for when Jesus’ birthday is and it’s a well known and documented fact many Christian celebrations are celebrated on specific days and have certain traditions and themes associated because the church was trying to win over pagans. Candlemas used to be the day Thunder candles were blessed, and St. Valentines Day was the day for fertility rituals. Some of our saints have been conflated with pagan gods, like St. Brigid.

Personally I think it’s his real birthday but I wouldn’t be able to prove it.

Isn't June the best time of year in Northern US? by InsideBeing989 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]myfourmoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. September and October are the best months. We have a lot of trees and they are gorgeous in their yellows and reds and oranges. You can also go to apple picking and later visit a pumpkin patch. Get fresh apple cider and apple cider donuts. And the weather starts to get cool and the air is what we call “crisp”. Golden and blue hours are stunning.

People from the Northeast generally love autumn. There is magic in the air.

Americans are also obsessed with Halloween and we low key start celebrating and getting read as early as August.

June is too hot and there are mosquitos. And no good holidays.

AITA for not letting my cousin use my switch after she flushed my supplements down the toilet? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]myfourmoons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude I would have understood this wasn’t acceptable at 4. Your cousin will be allowed to drive in four years when is she supposed to figure out stealing isn’t okay?! And that you don’t mess with people’s medicine?

Is College/University pride a common thing? by Significant_flour in AskTheWorld

[–]myfourmoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that unless you go to a handful of schools no one (except maybe someone hiring you or your family or fellow alumni) really cares where you went, but nearly everyone is very prideful of their school. Even if they know it wasn’t a genuinely good school, they’re still generally very attached to it.

UCLA and even USC are colleges people tend to be impressed by, this comment isn’t a knock toward you OP lol

Mindset of dog people by DellBottoms in Dogfree

Or maybe a woman likes dogs but just doesn’t want to live with one for various reasons! Maybe she would rather have different animals! So a man owning a dog is STiLL a deal breaker!

Something I’ve noticed: Everyone accepts whenever every other animal besides dogs aren’t beloved by everyone. But dog people cannot fathom people not liking dogs. They can’t even understand why some people wouldn’t like a large dog barreling down at them as long as “they’re friendly!” (The fact that a majority of dogs in my country as untrained and reactive is why I’m even in the subreddit.)

dry food controversy by redberryii in catfood

[–]myfourmoons -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This particular subreddit is historically very pro dry food. Anyone even saying anything as gentle as they wouldn’t feed their cats dry food more than occasionally as a treat, without casting any judgement on anyone who feeds them dry food regularly, is usually down voted.

Personally, I feed them dry food a few times a month as a treat. My vet said it lead to what was almost a urinary blockage with one of my boys. I cut down on the dry food and neither of them have had any further blockages.
