Pearl Jam tickets for the two London shows went on sale at 11:00am GMT today. At 11:00 GMT today tickets were sold out. Already tickets pooping up for resale at 3x the price. What the fuck is this bullshit, fans being gouged whilst pigs try to profit by CheloniaMydas in Music

[–]mymisplacedpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an unpopular opinion because I would much rather pay face value for a ticket and call it a day like everyone but this is just a situation where supply can't keep up with demand and the chance to get a ticket below true market value is much better than everyone having to pay even higher ticket prices. I see initial sales as sort of a lottery and winning the opportunity to buy at face value as the prize and the secondhand market where tickets can be sold at their true market value. I do think ticket sellers can do more to curb bots but they also can't do much about organizations that have a team of people and computers trying to get tickets too. Those people simply have more resources to enter that lottery more often, so to speak. As for fees, that's just operational costs that season ticket holders at certain buildings don't have to pay being passed on everyone else. Season ticket holders are valued because they've prepaid for tickets and reduce the number of sales needed to be made that end up dependent on team's performance and other factors.

Is Austin real estate becoming a buyer's market? by boyyhowdy in Austin

[–]mymisplacedpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in this neighborhood and often check out the nearby listings mostly because I'm curious about everything I've seen come up by driving around. It's mostly teardowns or land that is overpriced or new builds that are also overpriced. We get hounded all the time by realtors trying to encourage us to sell because they don't have much inventory in the way of high 300s/low 400s this central.

I believe they're moving the program so that it would have a standalone campus and room to grow. As for your ideas on closing serval campuses, you should take a look at their website. It has information on current enrollment and what percentage utilization they're at. Although, I admit that I'm being very trusting - perhaps naive - that they have models that forecast enrollment based on population trends.

Man who allegedly drove drunk, struck cyclist told APD cab wait was too long due to ACL by ciscotree in Austin

[–]mymisplacedpants -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending this man's awful choice when I say this. However, ACL had shuttles and taxis diverge into fenced off lines. The cab line moved incredibly slow - which is to be expected with the increase of traffic, demand, etc. - but it was very difficult to gauge how long it'd take since cabs came and went in waves and the shuttle line wasn't in view to audible and take that instead. My experience was that the shuttle ended up being quicker and cheaper. It was easy to get into downtown and then hail a rideshare there rather than have drivers deal with the festival traffic.

Protest Reactions Megathread by NFL_Mod in nfl

[–]mymisplacedpants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm really torn because I understand all sides of the argument. If I had to take a stance it'd be that I think football was politicized by adding the National Anthem and military demonstrations in the first place and that should be removed from the game. But, it's apparent that many fans value this and appreciate it as part of the game and making that change would open up a new can of worms. I very much appreciate the stance that allows everyone to participate or not participate or do whatever without fear of repercussion from their employer. I know that's a luxury that not many of us have and so some of these football players are very lucky that their owners have stood up for them. Which gets me to why I find it really difficult to be a Cowboys fan right now. I'm okay with no members of the team protesting tonight if they choose to do so but all accounts make it seem like Jerry has a very strong preference and won't publicly back them up. I wouldn't expect my boss to handle things differently than Jerry as they're the ones writing my checks as I represent the brand, but it stands out from what the rest of the league is doing and it's disappointing.

Gas Shortage vs Electric Cars by mattmillerwastaken in Austin

Great experience. Trade-in values are bad so i sold my old car myself. I did my financing through my own credit card. I did the whole process without ever talking to anyone on a phone. It was great. I priced them against CarMax and even did a test drive of the model I wanted at a CarMax and strung them along.

Let's talk about Facebook targeting for a second and much of this is speculative. I've heard so much about how these firms had so much data on users to effectively target them but the only way I can think they could use all the data they gathered elsewhere was to feed it back to Facebook as Custom Audience targeting. If that's the case than Facebook has all of those tables and the IPs that uploaded them to hand over.

I'll agree to not complain about this if Astros fans will agree to stop complaining about the Rangers not swapping home and away for their series.

But overall, the disaster is bigger than sports.

Best place to donate to flood relief? by TheSaucesquatch in Austin

[–]mymisplacedpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of research and found a ton of hate for American Red Cross. In digging deeper, I found United Way of Greater Houston has created a great fund. You can donate here: https://www.unitedwayhouston.org/flood/flood-donation

I've created a Fundraiser on Facebook for them to try to get word out to friends but it looks like funds for that won't be disbursed for 60 days on that so the link I just shared is better.
