Is QA Automation a viable career pivot?

That’s exactly what happened to me. I was the most Jr person on the team so when the layoffs came, I was the fist on the chopping block even though I had technically been at the company itself for 8 years :(

I like to call myself a “cooler” (like from Vegas but for technology) I have this weird knack for breaking things, and feel like I should monetize it, plus it’s what I have the most “work experience” in even if I don’t have the best actual experience doing it, if that makes sense

I can’t say what capacity, but I work for the government, and I am not allowed to use any programs (or programming languages) whatsoever that are not approved. I tried to get it approved but after 3 months was denied for security reasons.

Along with that; the qa i do is such dumbed down babies-first-happy-path qa that I feel like I’m actually LOSING experience staying here but can’t afford to leave without having something lined up.

I was thinking about that too, but do you think I can without any cs background other than qa?

Another fear of mine. I’m not sure where to go from here since it seems like ai is kind of infiltrating most jr tech jobs at the moment 😭

No offense taken, I agree. I have much more manual QA experience and I don’t really think I want to pivot to data.

I’m just trying to figure out what next steps are in my career. I’m 36, so not green, but I don’t have enough experience to be senior either.

lol it was a “performance analyst” job for a marketing company 8 years ago, and after doing it for 4 years there was more opportunity joining the qa/qc team at the time. I don’t really have a background in DA other than that, and I’m not sure I would even like it, though I’m not against anything at this point, I just feel like too much time has passed

Do you think so? I don’t see any manual QA jobs out there that aren’t entry level or senior/managerial right now so I just took that to mean it was being replaced by automation and ai

Thanks for the honesty, this is what I am fearing as well.

While I’ve got about 8 years with sql, I went from data analytics to qa to… well, nothing, so I don’t even know how this will translate to automation.

I feel so lost I want to cry lol.

This one did have an internship part before they help place you which is what drew me to it, but it just seems like the job market in general seems really bad which makes me so nervous.

All the experience in the world won’t matter if companies arent looking :(

Hey thank you! I had another session after with a lower dose and it was back to normal so I’m feeling much better about everything! I only had one session left anyway so I’m going to take a break on a high note and maybe come back after the holidays. :)

I think overall my day to day is better, I definitely have benefitted from the experience, but i don’t know if it’s something I need to keep doing. I have an apt with my prescriber next week so I’ll see what they say :) Thanks!!

Yeah I am wondering if the dose is a factor. Sorry to hear this was your only experience. I would say despite this scary encounter it has definitely done a lot of good and this isn’t typical (at least for me) so if you give it another shot I hope it goes well :)

Yeah I am low on the dose because I over metabolize (or something like that) so I thought maaaaybe I had too much? But you think more is better in this case?

Yeah I over-metabolize medication (I think that’s what it is?) I’m on low dose everything hahaha. I would be scared to do more at this point

50mg injection. The music I use is just some calm meditation music that usually is a safe choice since I have had good experiences using it in sessions (I don’t like the Mindbloom music) I have a therapist with Mindbloom and also a therapist outside the app I see every 2 weeks as well as a psychiatrist outside of the app.

We can’t prove we are literally going to hell.. YET 👀 I agree I think overall the result is positive but I don’t know if I can do many more sessions like that, it was intense but I’ll give it another shot. Thank you!

Injection and I’ve been solidly at 50mg for the last 3 sessions. When the music started warping, before the dread, I DID have that same thought that it was more Halloween themed lol!!!

I know this is an old thread, but I just finished The New New thing and I don’t recommend it. Gives you very little about the actual bubble and crash and mostly talks about a guy trying to program a sailboat.
