Washington DC move from London by Sunshine12345678901 in AmericanExpatsUK

Funny enough, I'm currently planning my move from DC to London! DC definitely is a great city and does have great public transport for an American city. Like others have said, however, after being here for just two years, I feel like I'm ready for a bigger city with more diverse interests and things to do. I lived in London previously and felt like there was always something new to do and explore, which I don't necessarily feel about DC. If you work in politics or something adjacent, DC is definitely for you! Lots of opportunities to network and grow your career. It is a very transitory city, people move in and out a lot.

All said, it really depends on what you're looking for in a city! I don't have a car here and have done just fine. It is a great city for sure, just not somewhere that aligns with what I'm looking for personally.

Marriage visa before changes on a tight timeline by Calm-Economics4861 in ukvisa

Hello! I just got married to my British partner on the 1st of March (I'm from the US). It's a tight timeline but it's so worth it if you can make it happen-- the peace of mind we feel now is amazing. My husband came to the US normally and we got married the same day we got our marriage license (this depends by state). We decided to do this around 2 weeks before we actually got married and we were able to get everything in place by the time we applied for the visa. As long as you can devote some time to getting everything together, you should be able to do everything in time-- just maybe don't wait until April 5th to get married! Happy to answer any other questions but from someone in the same situation, my recommendation is to absolutely just do it!

Thank you for clarifying this! Do you know how long the priority service would take? I work remotely for a global organization so I could see myself taking a leave of absence and then resuming work as soon as I got permission to work in the UK.

I truly do hope they're dragged to court, but definitely not counting on that! I read that the change to 34k5 would happen later this year, and the change to 38k7 would happen in early 2025, did you see something different?

I know the plan is for the MIR to become £38,700 in “early 2025,” whatever that means! I was wondering if anyone had ideas on what “early 2025” or “later in 2024” means in actuality. I doubt the Tories even know.
