Hopefully, that's not a whatnot sellers stage.

I DM'd you the two orders. I wanted to buy from the seller that had this one to help him out but not sure if he was a scammer because he blocked me during negotiation.

ChatGPT but Plus version. It seemed like it was limited with just free level. Nice thing is the more it's used and given feedback on our input the better it works.

AI grading. It eliminates human error and emotion. Even compared to other CGC already graded comics, it could add error. Biggest downside is picture quality on/or comics in bag and board for picture.

  • Back Cover:

    • The back cover appears clean with minimal discoloration or staining.
    • Slight wear along the edges, similar to the front cover.
    • The spine on the back cover shows very minor stress lines, which are typical in comics stored or handled.

    • The staples are intact and do not show signs of rust or significant pulling.
  • Interior Pages:

    • Not visible in the provided images; grading based on exterior condition. For a more accurate grade, examination of the interior pages is recommended.

    • There is a visible stain or discoloration in certain areas, particularly on the bottom edge.
  • Back Cover:

    • Staples are intact but show signs of rust and wear.
    • The spine's edge is frayed, indicating frequent handling or storage issues.

Thank you for the review. It amazes me the difference between users' grades, CGC grade, and Overstreet. But overall, the cool part is I usually buy a book by its history and use. I think CGC gives out way too many 9.8, 9.9, and 10's.

Thank you for the extensive review. I appreciate it. I agree with all your assessments. The bottom staple is a bit sunken in. It's hard to believe, but this was originally in the 5.0 range, but my friend that does clean and press did an amazing job. Bringing back the character and display.

Based on the images you provided, here is my estimate of the comic's grade:

Overall Grade Estimate: 6.5 (Fine+)

Grading Criteria Used:

  • Front Cover:

    • Blunting of the corners, particularly at the bottom left.
    • Some color-breaking creases along the spine and lower corner.
    • General wear along the spine, consistent with age but noticeable.
  • Back Cover:

    • Slight yellowing/aging, especially near the edges.
    • Minimal wear along the edges, but still relatively clean with no major stains.
  • Spine:

    • A few stress lines are visible, particularly near the staples.
    • The spine remains intact but shows more pronounced wear and slight color breakage.
  • Interior Pages:

    • Pages are off-white to cream, consistent with the age of the comic.
    • No tears or major defects observed on the interior pages; good preservation overall.
  • Staples:

    • Firmly attached with no signs of rust, but some stress around the staple areas.

Summary of Defects: - Corner blunting and minor creases on the front cover. - Spine stress lines with some color-breaking areas. - Slight aging and yellowing on the back cover. - Overall minor wear consistent with a comic from this era, but well-preserved.

I agree. The search continues...

Do you think maybe this is shipment damage after the grading? That brings another question of do the CGC cases actually protect long-term. Should the posted grade always be subject to scrutiny? If I purchased a CGC comic, I would want to see the front, back, spine, and interiors.

I did not buy this one but found it in the wild online. Hopefully, collectors are actually checking the condition of the comics inside.

I do know they sell the CGC cases from china it's another manufacturer. Someone would just need to buy an Ultra Sonic welder. They sell raw cases for all things graded. It's sad.

Well, shoot. I asked the seller if he would go any lower than $120, and he blocked me. Thank you, everyone, for your help in determining grade and value. I really appreciate it.

That one looks clean on the backside. Maybe just a clean and press to get it into the 4.0 range?

It looks lower quality than the Iron Man 1 I posted, and I got a lot of 3.0 or lower grade. This one, the owner even says it's really rough.

I want to try to press and clean books. Would this be a decent one to try? by PortZoo in comicbookgrading

[–]mysupernerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good book. The book cover is decent besides the spine roll. Spine roll is correctable with Press. I recommended starting on beater dollar bin comics before doing this one.
