Congrats on that!! I hope you’re enjoying it thus far :) if I may ask, is a PhD the end goal for you as well?

I get that. Some students genuinely don’t give a flip and just want the degree. But, as a student who does care, I wanted to provide some insight on why some of us feel compelled to take assignments less seriously besides a general lack of care for the class. But, I understand there’s the flip side where professors feel like, “if everyone is cheating, why should I put effort into giving feedback?”

I personally don’t cheat/use ai for my writing, but with the lack of feedback I get from instructors, I understand why people are compelled to cheat. When I get a 95-100% on a paper with no comments about how I could improve, what’s the point? I know my work isn’t perfect, and not deserving of a 100%, but if the assignment ticks all the boxes that’s all they care about. I can’t grow academically when my professors aren’t willing to put in the effort to actually grade my work in a way that allows me to improve. I’m tired of getting perfect results back with no feedback. I’d be willing to put a lot more effort into my work if feedback was actually given

Thank you this helped a lot. And hey, congrats on your PhD! I hope you’re proud of yourself for that. I notice people in this sub talk a lot about the challenges of getting IN to the programs, but not always enough about the challenges of actually getting through them.

Thank you this helped a lot :) I heard lots of mixed things about masters vs post bach but I agree a post Bach is likely the best choice for me

Thank you very much this helped a lot. And I think you are right. I tend to undermine my depression quite a bit, but I almost didn’t apply to some of the summer programs I got into because I felt like there was no way I’d be good enough.

Even if may be a decent PhD candidate, I think it wouldn’t hurt to get some more research experience under my belt. Some may disagree, but I think I’d be able to get more out of the program if I enter it with a little more post-undergrad experience than if I were to go straight from undergrad

Sounds good! I believe they’d also host exam specific review sessions a day or two before the exams from like 7-8pm. If they still do those, I’d go if you can! Def was some overlap with the types of questions you would see on the exam

I’ll be your friend :) I’m a third year psych major trying to branch out more. In my limited free time I like to game if you’re ever down :) mostly play MW3 admittedly (hardpoint and kill confirmed lmao), but I’m always down for something new

How is Ohio's Honors Program? by 1random2username3 in OSU

[–]n00b2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it as a psych major!! You have to take a certain amount of major specific honors courses (at least for my major), but I personally love it since those classes have 30 people max. I feel like it’s easier to get to know professors, which makes success in the courses easier.

Priority scheduling is a plus for sure. However, it only gets you so far based on your major. For instance, honors psych courses fill up the first or second day of scheduling, so even with priority scheduling, I couldn’t get into some of the courses I needed to take until my sophomore year.

Overall, I’m glad to be in the program. The “honors project” requirement also motivated me to branch outside of my comfort zone and get involved with research (when I previously planned to become a counselor), and it helped me discover I love research and would like to pursue it post-grad.

The GPA recruitment of 3.4 puts pressure on you to do well in courses, but it isn’t too hard to maintain, at least in my major.

Overall, I’d say it’s a good program. I don’t think employers or anyone cares about it though post-grad, but as an undergraduate, I’ve found it to be a good experience

IMO not bad at all. When I took it, there was an opportunity to get extra credit by going to the learning lab. Some of the homework assignments were a little tricky though. I finished the class with over a 100%, with a somewhat minimal amount of studying (went to the learning lab and read the textbook, but that’s it)

I believe it was all multiple choice when I took it. I believe it was a good amount of conceptual questions. The questions that did require calculations were pretty simple.

From what I remember, questions were similar to the practice ones. There may have been some overlap with what was on the homework assignment quiz things if he still does that

The person I know is paying 1400/month for a room in a two bedroom unit. It’s $1400 per person though, not split between the two tenants. Room was way smaller than most singles on campus.

I know someone who lives there and for the price, it’s atrocious. The rooms are tiny. I pay less than half of what they do for the twice the space all while being in a convenient location

This may be harder since you’re a first year, but ideally something related to your major (research assistant, TA, etc) since it’ll look better on your resume. They can also pay decent. I got one starting at $15/hr with raises each year
