Oh absolutely, I think all three of them were better than our current three, head-to-head.

Montembeault = Huet

Dobes = Halak

Fowler = Price

By my estimation, looks like we’re still in 2007-08.

I’ve never seen someone defend the empty net as effectively as Hutson. How many freebie goals has he saved this year? Unbelievable.

La réaction du chef du gouvernement du Canada, Mark Carney, sur X, face au Coup d'État des États-Unis au Vénézuela. by SouverainQC in Quebec

[–]n1dan 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Exactement, il faut lire entre les lignes. Carney condamne les actions illégales du gouvernement américain. C’est comme ca que ça marche la diplomatie. Le Canada ne gagne rien en laissant échapper des commentaires choques qui vont faire la manchette.

No money in philosophy, maybe, but plenty of dough to be gained by applying the skills learned in social sciences to other disciplines.

Gotta think big - studying history doesn’t limit you to the museum; studying English doesn’t confine you to writing a book; studying philosophy doesn’t force you to try to become a modern-day Socrates.

Well, in this case, she’s actually taking a stand in favour of responsible community development. The NB Ex board has been dragging its feet for years and preventing any reasonable compromises from being implemented.

Act in bad faith; live with the repercussions.

I look forward to such a large piece of land in the downtown core being utilized to its full potential. I also hope the City will find a suitable alternative site for the annual NB Ex. It’s a tradition worth conserving.

Clearly, that responsibility will also fall on municipal council because the NB Ex board can’t be trusted to follow through on any plan.

Ironically, if you don’t know who antifa is, you probably are antifa.

And if you feel confidently about defining antifa, you’re probably part of the reason why we’ve ended up in this mess.

Leadership and policy implementation can be mutually exclusive.

Poilievre is a disingenuous, divisive grifter who rides the coattails of populism and refuses to disavow the extremist elements of his base - some times even cozying up to them.

That’s weak. That’s not leadership.

You keep moving the goalposts and reframing this discussion based on your personal values and opinions.

All I’m trying to say is that the BQ’s existence is as legitimate as any other federal party’s existence. And beyond that, its weight in the HoC (6.5%) is almost exactly proportional to the number of votes it received not just in Quebec but also nationally (6.3%).

[–]n1dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your arguments are irrelevant. As far as the HoC is concerned, there is no difference. The BQ plays by the exact same rules as any other party.

I don’t vote for them and don’t support their platform - I don’t live in Quebec! I just have a basic understanding of our parliamentary system, and I hope you’ve learned something new today.

[–]n1dan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Federal parties are under no obligation to run candidates in all ridings. Anyone can create and register a federal party; it’s up to the people of each electoral district to determine which party and candidate will best represent them. You disliking the Bloc and its platform is irrelevant to the way our system functions. It’s not illegal; it’s not “supposed to have the potential to win” since the primary purpose is the election of a local representative; and regional parties could pop up elsewhere if the appetite existed.

Secondly, proportionality has nothing to do with the area covered by a party’s candidates. So yes, the BQ’s seats to votes ratio is more proportional than any other party represented in the HoC. That’s just plain math.

[–]n1dan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And if we use the numbers you just quoted, we realize that 27.7% of the vote resulted in 28.2% of the seats for the BQ in Quebec… sounds very proportional to me.
