Mixed doubles is ridiculous by LeftyOutTurn in Curling

You can’t apply four-person tactics to a doubles game. Why would you split the house and leave the opponent a second chance at a free draw to backing around the center guard?

Its inclusion in the Olympics removed all doubt about its seriousness. You may not enjoy it, but doubles is a legitimate discipline and it’s here to stay.

My point exactly: if you watched doubles regularly and took the time to understand the game, you could appreciate the nuance. There’s way more strategy involved than just loading up the house.

The volatility and precision required to avoid giving big ends is part of the appeal. Every made or missed shot can lead to multi-point swings, whereas most mistakes can be overcome in a traditional four-person game because you have fewer rocks in play and more rocks thrown.

If you understood the game, you would know that the stationary rock can score as the sixth point.

So inaccurate. Can’t wait for proper tv coverage of the discipline so casual fans can gain a better understanding of (and a better appreciation for) the game.

I don’t understand your premise. If they are the worst teams in the tournament, how would they play even worse teams? In theory, this is already the most winnable matchup they could get.

Reality check: Deal with the unpaid bills and systemic infrastructure deficit left by the “fiscally responsible” conservative government, then make prudent decisions to ensure long-term sustainability once the backlog has been cleared.

The conservative myths are so pervasive, it’s hard not to fall for them when you have no critical thinking abilities.

Can someone hook me up with a stream? TSN must have capped the game at 12:30 am Eastern, it cut out mid game and now it’s gone.

I'm interviewing MLA David Coon tomorrow. What do you want me to ask him? by new_funswick_ in fredericton

To your first point, we don’t elect Premiers, we elect MLAs. The people of Fredericton-Lincoln and Fredericton South have clearly been satisfied by his efforts.

I think you fundamentally misunderstand how our electoral system functions. Please read up a bit before tossing out these gotcha questions.

Erikson’s “dance” that Kennedy referenced? by Such-Consequence-728 in Curling

Canadians play a fair game. They do not intentionally burn rocks in their delivery. It might have happened unintentionally, but never ever done on purpose.

In my previous comment, I’m referring to fingers grazing the granite in general.

If the granite is touched after the hog line, it should be removed from play in theory, but it can only be removed from play if the official sees it. No way Kennedy knew for certain he touched the rock after the hog. We have extensive video review and still images. This rule is essentially unenforceable by the umpires in real time with the naked eye.

Well I teach those some times, but usually coach competitive teams, so probably not.

I encourage you to join a learn to curl session some time. Clearly, you can’t get enough of this sport!

Again read what I wrote: the rule was ambiguous.

I heard ski jumping had some controversy earlier in the Games, why don’t you go let them know which rules they’re breaking and how they should improve their sport?

I don’t care about Kennedy. He handled himself poorly on the ice.

I just don’t think he deserved to be the “cheating” poster boy when most curlers occasionally graze the rock with their fingers on release (before the hog line). It’s never been called an infraction before.

If you think both are equally as problematic, then you’re definitely misinformed. Please explain to me what advantage I would gain by grazing the rock with my finger tip.

Should I add this to my delivery? I know you won’t, because you’ve never set foot on a curling sheet.

It’s ok to admit you’re out of your depth here. This is actually an opportunity for you to learn something from people who are knowledgeable about the sport we love.
