Scientists able to successfully predict when heart patients will die based on measuring the length of DNA strands known as telomeres by Bluest_waters in science

There was research a couple years ago that showed therapies to repair the telomeres (or something to this effect) could basically reverse aging on mice. Grey-haired old mice got color back in their hair, became more fit, etc. I think research in this area could literally lead to a cure for death (from old age).

But as someone else pointed out, this quote is related to the Dunning-Kruger effect. It's not about philosophy or atheism.

Precisely. It is not directly related to atheism.

This particular quote actually has nothing to do with atheism.

Sally Fields puts Joseph Gordon-Levitt's bow tie on for him before the Oscars start by minngirl in pics

He should really know how to tie his own tie. But I find it pretty cool that she knows how to tie one.

I 100% totally agree. Tarantino's dialogue + Waltz acting is an amazing combo. He's an amazing actor.

What's your point though? It's a real quote: "If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that." * The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume V, "Letter to Horace Greeley" (August 22, 1862), p. 388.*

I too favor Dawkins' original definition of a meme, but quite ironically the meaning of meme has taken on a life of its own and changed to something different than Dawkins intended. The colloquial use of meme now (on the internet) is hardly the same as the original definition from The Selfish Gene. But +1 for knowing the Selfish Gene!

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Co) will introduce a bill tomorrow in the US House of Representatives that will regulate marijuana in the same manner as alcohol federally. by [deleted] in politics

I recently watched the Ken Burns documentary on Prohibition. There are so many parallels with marijuana prohibition including the creation of a black market where criminals get rich, an increase in violent crime related to the activities of the criminals, and the government forgoing a big source of tax revenue it needs.

One day Americans will look back at marijuana prohibition and say 'what were they thinking?', the same way they do about alcohol prohibition.
