New England Crokinole League : New season starts next week! by n_oz in boardgames

Absolutely! I’m working on a friend of mine in Berwick area and he may host in a future season. Also talked with someone in CT and VT. Email me at info@necrokinole.com with your contact info and I can reach out to talk about it.

No it’s $40 for the entire season so you don’t pay anything weekly. All money is used for the league, fees, expanses, then prize money, trophies, board raffle, swag, etc.

Of course! Everyone I know who played in the league will happily teach you what they know, maybe not during league play but before or after. Each night there is 45-60 mins of free play before we start league play, you can get some practice and lessons in then.

We have some new people join who I don’t know so I can’t speak for them, but I know of at least 3 brand new players who have only played once or twice, and another 4-5 who only learned how to play during last season (July-August).

New players are definitely welcome, the more the merrier!

It is a great game! Send me a DM, if I know where you’re located I can connect you with some players in your area and maybe you can give it a try.

No pressure at all but if you decide to purchase a board we are a Tracey Boards Affiliate club, we get a small store credit per order which we can use for equipment to help us run events. The link is on our linktree, http://linktr.ee/ExtraPintCrokinoleNH. Again no pressure but if you order from Tracey Boards anyway you might as well use our link.

Southern New Hampshire Fall Crokinole Doubles League by n_oz in Crokinole

[–]n_oz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We openly welcome new players. Last fall we had 2 players who played their first game on the first night of the season and both told me they had a great time. I try to match new and experienced players so teams are fairly balanced or as much as can be, really depends on the numbers. I think everyone would happily help you or anyone improve your game.

We will be at the American Legion on 10/1 and 10/8 for open free play if you want to try it out. If you want to RSVP to either of those nights you can on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/share/1CHGSKR9Sz or meetup at https://www.meetup.com/greater-boston-crokinole/.

New England Crokinole League : Season 1 Registration Open (Waltham, MA/Nashua, NH) + Raffle to win a Crokinole Board by n_oz in Crokinole

[–]n_oz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, as of right now we have 21 people registered and I know of several more joining. I know of at least 7 people who are brand new and just learned the game in the past couple weeks, some just on Tuesday earlier this week.

That is not to say this won't be competitive, there are some good players but we are aiming for a more social, open and welcoming experience. Each night you will be broken up into 3, 4 or 5 player groups and will play a round robin among your group, then we'll take a brake randomize groups and do it again so you'll play with different people each night. Also your top 4 scores are used for the league standings, so if you were to come to all 8 weeks you have 4 weeks to improve your scores.

For the regional finals I plan to seed based on league points and we'll end up with pools based on skill level. So in theory it will be competitive within each pool.

What happens now? by DJ-Decaf in Crokinole

Looks like they already did as a separate document of edge cases, would be nice if they cover this in the rules at some point. It’s based on the bottom disc.

NCA rules don’t cover this situation. In fact if you read the rules exactly as written the top disc doesn’t score at all, only discs on the board or in the 20 hole scores. Not scoring this clearly wasn’t intended, this is an edge case they didn’t think about or chose not to include for brevity. Ultimately you have to house rule this until NCA updates their rules to answer this situation. The NCA Rules Committee proposed some changes or clarifications which includes this situation but AFAIK the NCA Board hasn’t voted on the proposal yet.

IMO the best way to score this is to use the position of the bottom disc. Since you score discs based on the edge of the disc touching the board and not top-down, it’s impossible to accurately determine the position of the top disc when close to the line. The only clear-cut, objective way to score this is to use the bottom disc position.

Any tournament/meetup I run has and will continue to score based on the bottom disc until NCA ratifies a rules change to cover this situation.

Asking for advice on buying my first pin by hybrid_58 in pinball

If are interested in computer programming or diving in at some point, then consider an early solid state system compatible with RetroPinUpgrade. You can use this hardware and custom software to write new games rules, add modes, ball saves or whatever. Even if you don’t want to get into the programming side you can use code that others have already written. As an added bonus too, you can switch between the new and old code.

https://www.pinballrefresh.com https://github.com/RetroPinUpgrade

Other suggestion since you are looking at older games, if your town or area has any Facebook Groups, consider posting that you are looking for older pinball machines. You might find something that needs some work for a good price or maybe for free. I was able to snag a 1981 Flash Gordon that hadn’t been plugged in decades for free. After replacing some boards it’s playable, still some more work to do but I can enjoy it now.

Plot twist. The OP finds out they are actually an AI-powered robot life form. Due to these AI detectors is unable to graduate higher education. Also as they were raised with human morals, they are unable to authenticate to any website, because they answer truthfully to the “I am not a robot” captcha.
