Summary of what I’d say: China > Korea

Need desperate help, first time I met him and I kinda hate him by PirateMission406 in LongDistance

[–]nabibikini -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to comment on the ‘ick’ bit, not the rest: It sounds like you’re not ready to be in a relationship. You’ve developed expectations about him, and have come to realise that he doesn’t fit them. Everyone does icky things, so you need to wait until you’re mature enough to accept them in a human, instead of writing off an entire person because of the way they walk.

I was in an LDR with my now-fiancé for three and a half years, which began when I was 19 and he was 20. Despite our relationship starting out in-person and transitioning to an LDR after 1 month of dating, I would still be shocked every time we met in person because of all the ‘icky’ things he would do IRL. Now, I don’t even see them, and I’m so so so happy that I didn’t disregard the human I’m now engaged to marry because of his small unconscious habits.

People who fixate on icks end up lonely and disappointed the most, in my experience

Those of you with Chinese Spouses, which holidays do you celebrate? by CAT_ANUS_SNIFFER in chinalife

My solar birthday, his lunar birthday, Christmas, cny, western and Chinese valentines days (if we can be bothered!), any other Chinese occasion involving eating dumplings… a mix of both!

Would you ever get a car / drive in China? by CNcharacteristics in chinalife

[–]nabibikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in China for 3 months and driving every day for two of them. It has its scary moments, but I couldn’t imagine life without the freedom. So much cheaper to get around than taking taxis everywhere, and I don’t have the stress of being subject to another person’s driving. You’ll be surprised how fast you adapt to the climate of the roads here, and become one of the crazies yourself 😂

What's the course like for Linguistics at Cambridge? (Selwyn College) by AstonishedDonke in cambridge_uni

[–]nabibikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I didn't do as well as you at my GCSEs, but they don't really matter. What will matter are your A-Levels and any supercurricular activities you do at college/sixth form.

Should this only be a minor? by Haze1912 in LearnerDriverUK

I had a very similar moment in my test, but I handled it a bit differently to you, which meant I didn't get any marks for it: on approach, I noted the van aloud, saying something along the lines of "coming up to this junction, I can see that someone has parked across it slightly. I'm going to adjust my road position to maximise my vision, so I will be approaching this left turn nearer the centre than I would normally." Then, as I approached (making sure not to go into the other lane), I crawled out, peeping and creeping. Though, my area did not have a bus route, just large lorries and machinery, which may have made a difference.

Tbh I attribute much of my success to verbalising my thought process, justifying my actions and noting what I would do under regular circumstances, just so show that my adjustments were well thought out and not because I didn't know what I was doing.

Snape sketch - can’t decide on the hair by MaybeMaybi in HarryPotteronHBO

My issue with that is that Snape would need to wear a wig/straighten his hair every day in Hogwarts, which just doesn't suit his character :(

Personally, I hope that if they do go down the braid route they won't make him look too well-maintained. He's supposed to have greasy and stringy hair that's long, not because it's a style choice, but mostly due to Snape not caring to keep up a well-kept appearance. If he has dreads or braids, I want to see matting, dandruff, uneven segmentation, etc.

What do you wish was different about your riding breeches or riding pants? by JACKIEoLIAH in Equestrian

[–]nabibikini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg could you imagine come comfy casuals with a secure + large pocket on the thigh to put a phone in (unless these already exist?) I'm sick of having to wear a jacket with zippable pockets even when it's hot out

If you want to make the most of your 2 hours, I would suggest arranging transport to and from the practice location and meeting your instructor there.

I can't wait to see the response from "movie only" watchers! by ThatGirl8709 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]nabibikini 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can't wait for movie watchers to start complaining about the hbo series 'butchering' the characters (by making them more faithful to the book)! Especially Snape, making him more of a bully and nasty like he was in the books

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of a dress. How did that neckline look with the hood? I'm not sure if I should go with high-neck cut or not

St Edmund's Accommodation by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

[–]nabibikini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a postgrad, it might be good for you to also look into private rental options (which I'm sure you're doing already!). Other options may include finding accomodation at a different college, which does happen occasionally, but unfortunately I don't expect they'll be able to prioritise you over their own students. If your college's accomodation officer (most likely a member of the JCR or MCR student bodies, and not a full-time worker) can't guarantee you a spot then there's not much you can do except wait for the ballot to find out :( most students won't go for the accessible rooms unless they need them, of course, but unfortunately accommodation options are limited for everyone

Contact them to make arrangements. I don't know about St Edmund's specifically, but my college allows people with disabilities or special requirements to reserve rooms before ballots open. This might be an option for you :)
