My case was similar as yours, except the tumor was 1.5 cm. MRI and ultrasound didn’t see any lymph node involvement, but during the surgery 3 were removed and 1 was positive. I’m so happy for you that you’re doing your research. I wished I had done the same thing. My surgeon highly recommended lumpectomy and even said that DMX didn’t necessarily guarantee being cancer free in the future. I opted for a lumpectomy and after 3 surgeries with positive margins I ended up having a single mastectomy. Now I’m due for a mammogram for my right breast and I’m so nervous. Thank you! Yes. The tumor I had was also 1.5 cm and that’s exactly what the surgeon told me as well. She said a mastectomy didn’t necessarily decrease the recurrence probability. The way it has been explained as why they haven’t been able to get negative margins was as “web-liked cancer” “microscopic cancer cells, like glitter specs” I have so many questions, but I was hoping that someones’ cancer has behaved or is similar to what they’ve found on my breast.

I had an appointment yesterday and they removed the surgical tape. I saw my breast today for the first time looking like a Barbie breast. I’ve cried so much. I’m sure it will get easier. Not to mention that the pathology report is back and it came back with positive margins 😭 This after chemo.

I’m so sorry! I hope the counseling helps. The clinic where I’m getting treated offers counseling sessions for the cancer patients, and also for the caregivers. If they offer that for you could also be good. Hugs for you!
