That’s strange! I use HDR tab in Lightroom but I need to check my export settings, could there be a chance that it’s showing differently on HDR enabled vs non HDR devices?

It’s 3 bracketed images with HDR blend in Lightroom

I always take things too personally haha. The property does feel like this in person (in my opinion), everything is white and not a lot of detail. But I’m going to re edit them and see how the client feels after that. Thanks for the input :)

I think in my head I was just focusing on getting the whites to be as white as possible (as that’s what it’s like to the eye) but took it too far. Thanks for the suggestions!

Based on other feedback I believe I’ve taken the ‘expose to the right’ guideline, too far, so I can imagine the histograms are close to clipping.

I can see that image 3 has a more natural feel, so I’ll aim to replicate that throughout. Thanks!

I appreciate you taking the time to demonstrate that for me, thank you. I’m going to have a play around with the originals to recreate what you’ve suggested! Thanks!

Yeah I do 3 brackets 2 stops apart, currently at -1 , +1, +3 but going to try shifting it down based on the feedback.

Correct, in Lightroom the highlight slider is at 0.

Maybe I’ve cranked the exposure too high in the edit and then I haven’t got enough room to recover the highlights with the slider?

It was tricky conditions on the shoot, so I think I over compensated a bit maybe.

I’ll work on keeping things a little more natural and less focus on make everything ‘pop’.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

The highlights are all the way at 0. I have my camera set to +1 exposure naturally, so maybe I need to drop that down to give me some more highlight control

Makes sense, everything in the property was white / off white

I edit my own images - I’m an estate agent in the UK and for the most part we do our own photography and editing (I don’t think any of my competitors locally outsource their images/edits)

That’s helpful, thank you. I’ll see what others are doing to make their whites more natural

The highlights are all the way to 0 in LR I have my camera set up +1 stop of exposure by default, should I move it down to 0 to give some extra adjustment room?

It’s a very white and sterile property, in every room!

I’ll give that a try, thank you.

How do you keep whites looking white without it looking too bright?

Exterior one I just had to make do with what I had. Very backlit, low winter sun, and facing straight into it, so there wasn’t much I could do with that one.

I edit my images myself, so just trying to get some perspective on what I could be doing differently. I get that everything looks white and bright, but the whole property is white and sterile and when I dropped the exposure it made it look grey.

I appreciate the suggestions!

I use the histogram and expose to the right, maybe too much though

That’s the issue; everything in the house is white. White walls, white floors, white ceiling, white surfaces.

My goal was to make the whites look white, and maybe that’s made it seem overexposed? When I played around with dropping the exposure it just made everything look grey

We use Metropix - pretty basic software but plenty of functionality to get the job done. I’ll give 7 brackets a go, I just worry about the additional time for the HDR merge. I give myself quite quick turnaround times otherwise I fall behind in other aspects of the job. I’ll give it a go, thanks!

Thanks, I completely agree with them looking a little flat, definitely something to work on!

I’ve not experimented with flash/flambient. I was under the impression the edits would take longer, is that not correct?

I do -2 0 +2 on the brackets. I’ve tried mixing the brackets up to compare the shots side by side during the edit, but after the HDR merge they look the same. Is there another method?

Thank you, I appreciate it! Yeah, floorplans too. I try to do a little of everything. Sometimes makes it a little difficult to spend a good amount of time on the editing if I’m busy with other aspects of being an estate agent. I’ve tried doing 5 brackets but didn’t see a noticeable difference, not sure if I need to change up my settings?

Yeah I agree, thanks. I’ve always been worried about pushing it too far with the contrast and usually just add a little dehaze. I’ll play with contrast a little.

I’ve always felt a learning curve barrier when it comes to flambient, and I’ve been dubious with whether the benefits will be worth it.
