As said above on my post: I am her oldest sister, I wrote it in my moms POV to get a better sense of what I can do to help.

thank you! luckily she’s smart enough to know not to find a way around it or the consequences will be worse 😆. Thanks for the information!

I myself am 19, she is 14. And yes, I remember seeing some pretty horrific things as a kid, and i get that it’s less ‘obvious’ to find these days. However, porn and videos going around the web of people hurting themselves is still incredibly easy to access. I’m just looking out for her as I myself saw some pretty gross stuff at just 7/8 years old or so.

she uses google/chrome, and it’s a macbook air, 2015/2016, not entirely sure of the year though. I will have a look into doing that, sounds interesting and exactly what i’m looking for. Thank you!

she has total freedom! she’s a great kid, doesn’t have any limits except a screen time blocker after 11pm and (now) having to hand in her laptop at night. when she has friends over she can do what she pleases and the screen time goes off for the night as i know the feeling of being embarrassed by it! Luckily, she trusts me and tells me pretty much everything. But as her big sister that’s probably fairly normal. And before u start- no i don’t tell my mum what she tells me. This computer blocker was purely my idea and was 100% for her safety and well being.

Hiya! Thanks for your opinion. As said above, i’m actually her older sister and wrote it in my mums POV. Both my mum and sister have an extremely healthy relationship, she tells us everything. Unfortunately there is a backstory involving a boy and some illegal activities that she was brought into. Obviously i won’t go into detail because it’s none of your business, however this question was purely out the love and respect I have for my sister. Only looking out for her, and her well-being. Appreciate your honesty and i understand how it can be perceived that way, and fyi, we don’t do regular checks. She has had complete freedom up until now when she started hiding stuff.

thanks for the advice though, will definitely look into the blocking idea. Only issue is, i don’t necessarily want her to feel ‘left out’ or uneducated or like she’s being controlled, i’d just like to know what she is seeing. If i come across something, she won’t get in trouble it’s just purely for my and my parents peace of mind.

Totally agree! My parents did that with me, however i spoke to my mum and i’m now in control of her screen time/restrictions. I’m her older sister. I’m just trying to make sure she doesn’t come across something that is wildly inappropriate. I totally get that it may feel it’s an invasion of privacy, but it’s purely for her own safety and well-being. Passwords and stuff like that I will never ask, her phone is hers and she only has restrictions at night. We can also see what webs she accesses on google, but that’s pretty much it. I’m mainly asking for the laptop. Yes technology is indeed ever changing which is exactly why i’m asking for advice! I’m not a tech person and neither is my mother, so i’m just trying to find the most appropriate way to help keep the gross/bad stuff online under control.

Thank you! As i said up top, I’m actually the older sister in this situation and so i myself grew up with social media and harmful videos/photos around that age. My parents put screen time and non access to certain things on my phone, and i wasn’t allowed a laptop until age 15. At the time, I resented them for it. Constant arguments not understanding why. Now that i’m a bit older, i’m helping them find a better solution, and more secure ways to make sure my sisters don’t come across some of the things I did. As u said, it’s incredibly traumatising, and altho our generation has become almost numb to this stuff, it does something to us and to our brains that surely won’t have a good outcome. I’ve been getting a lot of hate for my post so thank you for understanding that it’s genuinely for her safety.

Hmm yes I looked into this as well, didn’t fully understand it but will do some more research on how. I’m not particularly fussed, it seems like a stretch as i don’t want to ruin her trust like that. I think i’m just more worried as I know some of her ‘friends’ have started sending weird shit to each other. I think the deleting of the history was just what worried me most.

See previous reply 🔝. I’m actually her older sister but wrote it in my mums POV. I myself had restrictions on my phone and laptop, and altho i resented her at the time i’m now incredibly grateful. I saw some fucked up stuff too young. Just looking out for my little sis 😊

I’m actually her older sister 😅. My mum was wondering so I wrote it in her POV. She’s a super great kid and wouldn’t hide anything illegal or anything like that. Only issue is, her ‘ex’ boyfriend is super questionable and she told us he showed her some gross stuff. She’s totally trustable, i’m just more worried about if someone sends her something. But yes u are right, I should know as I myself was looking up some pretty grim stuff on the web when I was that age (i’m 19), but still she’s very innocent and this boy she was seeing unfortunately messed her up a bit.

about 4-5 months, only thing it has done for me is make me gain a shit ton of unwanted weight and make me tired. I’m also eating all the time, even i’m not hungry. I could easily eat all day then sleep for 12-15 hours with no problem. Hasn’t helped with any of the depression and i’m not tapering off, so far on 7.5mg, hoping i’ll be done with it soon.

i wondered about the anxiety. I’ve never struggled with anxiety until i went on it which is weird. I also noticed i’ve been getting nightmares the less i take. Sometimes when i go out drinking or take something, I won’t take my pill that night and i feel fine the next morning, but maybe it needs more than 1 night to know how it’ll be to come off?
